Why do WE always get green line duty?

Postby SKI-preo » Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:46 am

This post is just an observation that whenever Cypriots return from Australia- they put us on the Green line for conscription as opposed to "locals" with connections.

I have seen this happen to 3 relatives a few years back and 4 friends of mine more recently. Do they think we are more have a higher tolerance for lead, complain less or simply expendable?

Just tell them you are mentally deranged and unstable.

Apparently 1 in 5 Cypriots have mental issues, deeming them unfit for service. Judging from this forum, I think the figures are understated. :?

But in any case, all you need is an exit permit, or do 3 months service. Piece of cake. Although, if Cypriots don't take national service seriously, then why should the diaspora...so I know what you're saying.

Simple really. They want to show you the 'enemy'. The likelyhood is that you have met many TC's in Australia than anywhere else. On the other hand pe5rhaps you have not, but the RoC NG is not taking any chances.

Know your 'opposition'.

Sounds like a fluke. That wasn't the case with one of my nephews. They do go out of their way to group English speaking diaspora together, who may struggle with their Greek, though.

But where do they group them, whilst others get leave due to being connected to someone?

well there are a few things to take into consideration.. firstly foreigners who spend most their lives abroad and come back either before or after the age fo 25.. if you do army before 25 you do 6 months and after is 3 months.. so in this time what can can you really do? one month is for training in pafos also.. and i dont know how good your greek is but what if you dont understand the officers screaming.. aqre they supposedto stop spend 5 hours explaining in english?

its just more practical for the foreigners to do this kind of work in the army.. plus i like it sitting standing guard is fun ;p

Green Line duty belongs to the infantry so it’s a corps issue and nothing to do with individuals.

The conditions are twofold…

1. Are you an infantry man?

2. Are you serving in one of the many infantry companies that serve the Green Line such as… 212ΤΠ or 213ΤΠ?

When you were called upon to declare a corps to join, you must’ve either had no opinion or requested “beziko” (infantry)!

Remember that day during basic training when you all lined up and one by one entered a room full of generals, stood attention, saluted, and shouted out which corps you wanted to join? Well, that’s when your fate was sealed!

Now serve your country like the rest of us have and SHUT UP!
