Premier Erdogan says withdrawal of troops from Cyprus is out of question.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that withdrawal of troops from Cyprus was out of the question.
"Those who suggested this proposal to us, should first ask this question to the South" Erdogan told at a news confernece in Willard Interncontinental Hotel after his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama.
"I had the opportunity to discuss with Mr. Obama ways to carry further the model partnerhip between our countries, including economic, scientific, technological, military and political relations. The U.S. party assigned its two high ranking officials and Turkey assigned Deputy Prime minister Ali Babacan and State Minister for Foreign Trade and Economy Zafer Caglayan to boost relations. So that we will be able to take more determined steps for the next process. They will also discuss the steps to boost the performance in foreign trade," Erdogan said.
Erdogan said they discussed the issues related to fight against terrorism. "We have reaffirmed the understanding that 'separatist terrorist organization is the common enemy of the United States, Turkey and Iraq' We will continue cooperation in all issues," he said.
"Another important issue is the developments particularly in Iraq. We focussed on the nuclear program in Iran, and developments in Afghanistan. Turkey has offered to provide training to Afghan army in a training facility to be build in Afghanistan."
Erdogan expressed readiness to contribute to the formation of a police force in case an agreement could be reached.
Answering a question on whether Turkey demanded the U.S. to rid Mount Quandl of PKK terrorists, Erdogan said the U.S. President offered further support and the two countries would continue to actively share intelligence against PKK, noting however that they did ot discuss any new measures during the meeting.
Answering a question, Premier Erdogan said rumors about plans to withdraw Turkish Troops from Cyprus to be deployed in Afghanistan was completely false, noting that such a thing was out of the question.
