Following my heart and moving to Limassol from the US

Postby Kristyn » Sun Dec 06, 2009 12:37 am

I am looking to move from the US to Limassol. Any suggestions to help me make my move easier?
Such as

What is an estimate for a months worth of expenses?
( wanting to bring 3 months salary with me and I live quite a simple life)

How difficult will it be to obtain a job?
I do not speak Greek

Thank you for any help you may provide!!

not many jobs and very menial and poorly paid if any.No Greek no good job even if there are any.Rent from 300 euros a month in winter if in a built up area and not needing a car to get around you probably could manage on around 200 euros a week for food, utilities, mobile phone etc.

Hi Kristyn, welcome to CF.... :D

Ok, firstly... Do you have somewhere to live when you arrive in Cyprus? as rent can be (as Beverley correctly says) from around 300 Euro's, if you already have somewhere this can make a big difference to your monthly outgoings.

As for work, like anywhere else it depends on how you put yourself across.. knowing Greek is a bonus but not essential, however if you try to learn when living here it will help. What do you do for a living as I maybe able to help. Average wage is probably around 1,000 Euro's a month (but obviously depending on what skills you have) and you can live on that if you are happy as you say with a simple life.. and not getting drunk every night and dancing on tables!!!

So, I would have thought if you bring around 6,000 Dollars which is approximately 4,000 Euro's that should keep you going for around 3-4 months...

No, no table dancing for me, I am more of the stay at home relax type of person, Although my recent trip to Cyprus may turn me into a beach bum =).

The having somewhere to live is questionable. There is a possiblity but its not dinfinate.
Right now I am working as a Customer Care Representaive for an International Program Management Company as well as a procurement agent for all supplies for our programs our company offers. Lots of computer and office knowledge. Learning Greek is dinfinatly somthing i look forward to!

Thank you Phill and Beverly !!

Kristyn, no problem. Good to hear about the beach bum!!! I'm one myself and love it...

On a serious note, I think I maybe able to help on the job front, and it would be in Limassol... So stay in touch when you arrive.

Btw, Cyprus is a very chauvinistic country, so the moment you land on the tarmac you’re just somebody’s bitch!

Better blunt than dishonest… 8)
