You can only bring up that topic when someone tells u how much she/he makes and thats not often. I don't know what my relatives make. Right now I only hang out with Cypriots. They will ask u and tell u how much they make. They have even asked me what I made in the US.

 Yes, I had the same culture shock when I moved here... the difference being that in UK people ask because they don't want to feel that they're being underpaid in comparison where as here they're just trying to figure out how high up the status tree you are..
Within 2 hours of moving into my house I was asked... "So how much did you pay for the beach house, what job do you do and how much do they pay you.... oh.. nice car! How much did you pay for that then?.."
But guess you get used to it...

As they say... "When in Rome!!"...

I certainly believe u about the status thing. People here are really into that. I hate answering questions like those. I will start to say like what my mother told me to say as a child, "Are u writing a book?" In my country, we will just say you shouldn't make below this or give a range for what someone's salary should be. We won't say, "I make XYZ."

Right now I'm pretty happy figuring out how to do quotes. Now I have to figure out how to do the quote in quote box thing. hehe

When will men learn that it's how they use their 'brain' and not their 'tongue' that turns (real) women on!

Ate... I'm not as daft as I look..

Using the brain and turning something on is the easy bit (if your smart of enough to know of course)... it's knowing how to keep it running and maintaining it that's the skill... :D
