Right favourite books for Oracle:
1. Dean Koontz - Frankenstein (3 books in total)
2. James Herbert - The Lair and Rats
3. Stephen King - IT
I will think of some more and let you know.

Thanks lioness ... I've never been a fan of the horror genre but my son is keen to start reading Stephen King and since he's only twelve I usually do a fast read beforehand to check on suitability. I must say "IT" sounds like one of the scariest and I was thinking of starting him off with something like "Misery" ... have you read that one? ... although judging by the film that could just be a little sadistic. Maybe I'll have a go with "IT" then ...
If you like full blown horror you may find my choices too tame So, I'm really stuck with what to recommend. I read "Disgrace" by Coetze a few weeks ago and that is definitely worth a read although it had an unsatisfactory ending.
I've been reading the short stories by Richard Yates over the last few days and I can't wait to start another one every time one finishes ... but I'll only allow myself 3 per day due to pressing work matters. The "Eleven Kinds of Loneliness" is a superb collection.
I'll leave you with those at the moment in case you think they are a major yawn ...

I will pop to the library tomorrow after work and see if they have the above mentioned. I will definately give them a go. Perhaps you should try Stephen Kings short stories (more like ghost stories then horror) for your son first, they are good. Not too scary.
