A coin from an ancient Greek Byzantine city where Constantinople stands today.

The explanation we were given in school is nearer the mark. Ataturk saw the crescent and a star in the pool of blood during the battle against the Greek soldiers.

That coin was long before Ataturk. It was the time of Philippos, Alexander the Greats father. But what did you expect them to teach you at school?

Is it that difficult to believe? That he could see such an image after a battle on a night when the moon is born. I would have thought, they used it despite that fact that the east roman empire used it, is more reasonable to contemplate.

actually not difficult to believe knucklehead considering...

So nothing has changed. :?

They steal our lands, homes, and symbols!

Thanks Kafenes.

I am afraid GR beat Kafenes by two years. A similar Byzant was posted two years ago.

Kind of hard to take GR! seriously.

He undermines his own standing from just being so stupid. So all credit must go to Kafenes, for being the first serious poster to make such an amazing revelation.

I would suggest that even if Cyprus were to be "reunited" individual citizens would want to keep their own identities and the symbols that they feel represent them.

Totally agree.

Fine, if we're talking regions, let's have flags for the Paphos, Larnaca, Limassol, Famagusta, Kyrenia and Nicosia regions which all Cypriots from these regions, regardless of ethnic or linguistic background can fly with pride.

But you're not talking regions here, you're talking races. And when vaughan shows us the flag the Pakistanis have for Bradford, or the Turks have for Hackney, or the West Indians have for Brixton, or the Indians have for Southhall, or the Jews have for Golders Green, or the Cypriots have for Winchmore Hill, or the Greeks have for Bayswater... and explains what the reaction would be in Britain, then we'll talk.

It's hardly the revelation of the century. Unless you went to YFred's school.
