300,000 euro for her property in Larnaca

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

300,000 euro for her property in Larnaca

Postby Tim Drayton » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:37 pm

Afrika reports the following:

http://www.afrikagazetesi.net/modules.p ... e&sid=1107

300,000 euro for her property in Larnaca

An action brought against the Republic of Cyprus at the ECHR by a Turkish Cypriot in respect of her properties in Larnaca has rattled the Greek Cypriots. Now that the European Court of Human Rights has accepted the case, the Greek Cypriot side has begun to seek an exit strategy. They are trying to broker an out of court settlement involving the payment of 300,000 euro to 83-year-old Nezire Sofi, who now lives in Britain. Nezire Sofi’s properties in Larnaca consist of two houses and two plots. Sofi, having made an unsuccessful claim for these properties from the Greek Cypriot administration in 2004, has applied to the ECHR without exhausting domestic remedies. The Greek Cypriot side has consented to an “amicable settlement” but is trying to ensure that this does not set a precedent for the remaining Turkish Cypriots. A total of ten Turkish Cypriot suits are currently filed with the ECHR.

Lets hope she does not accept it and takes it through its course to give our GC cousins a bitter sweet pill.
How does a law abiding internationally recognized country deny any of its citizens their right to their land and get away with it for so long. Which bit of the True democracy is applicable here. Perhaps our super patriots can give us a link to the clause in the constitution of this truly democratic country.
Because if the talks fail, then all the TCs will be able to get their lands and all the GCs will end up with sweet FA and I am not talking Football Association here.

Not surprisingly, a search for “Nezire Sofi” at the ECHR portal returned zero results!

Typical junk Turkish Cypriot hype.

The search that your link points to has "judgments" ticked; this is a case under consideration.

Good observation. I just enabled all available reports and it sill returned nothing.

Ok, thanks for finding it. Some stupid lawyer must’ve convinced her that she’s got a chance of winning something that is already secured by the “Turkish Cypriot properties Management Service”!

Spent hours over several days searching the ECHR Hudoc database and the only reference I found was the case pending on the 28th Jan referred to above. That the case is still pending confirms one aspect of the Afrika report that a settlement hasn't been reached.

Freddie and others - also want this to go all the way. Want to see the work of this Guardian of Tissy Property put in the spotlight.

That's very nice of them to secure it for her. Can she have the key then?
Dipstick.
