Influence of the Greek Orthrodox Church

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Influence of the Greek Orthrodox Church

Postby Expatkiwi » Tue Dec 01, 2009 12:05 am

I hear stories about 'the power behind' the throne' in Cyprus, which of course means the Greek Orthrodox Church. If the Church is influencing the secular government in an overt way - particularly in regards to the Cyprus Problem - would it then be fait to say that the Republic of Cyprus resembles more of a theocracy than a democracy?

Perhaps folks are scared to comment on this thread because of the Church...

Expatkiwi,

It is my view, that as the main organisation that preserved the language and cultural heritage of the GCs during the Ottoman occupation, the GOC has earned the right to voice its opinion.

Of course people are free to take it or leave it, but if you think there is anything overt or sinister going on, please let us have your evidence, unless this is a conspiracy theory.

No.

But considering how much they have lost to the Turkish occupation and how much Christian, historical and traditional heritage, which they were the centuries old custodians for, they have seen plundered and destroyed by the Turks ... they would have every right to be damned cross!

Yet still they didn't try to influence the government, but just went straight to the ECHR and sued Turkey's cloaca off ...
