If the Church is influencing the secular government in an overt way - particularly in regards to the Cyprus Problem - would it then be fait to say that the Republic of Cyprus resembles more of a theocracy than a democracy?

God's communist after all.

In Turkish we refer to God/Allah/Yahwe as 'O'. 'O' is genderless. I translate it as 'it'. Sorry if you find 'it' offensive.

Do not confuse 'it' with a Turkish K9 (as in it oglu it)

Expat Kiwi -In New Zealand I recall that the the Exclusive Brethren sect of the Anglican Church spent millions trying to attack the former Prime Minister Helen Clarke in a highly publicized smear campaign. They did the same thing in Tasmania against gay, green and left wing candidates. Are you saying that the involvement of religion in Cypriot politics is a unique phenomenon- Clearly New Zealand (& Tassie) suffers much more severe religious interference in secular issues.

The Bush government was supposedly also heavily influenced by the fundamentalist religious Right.
