Given the Euro/Pound rate and the high price of many goods in Cyprus are there any good mail order deals from UK?

I guess it will depend of the delivery fees charged by the various mail order companies.

What about Amazon? And companies selling clothing and electrical goods.

I have had several dealings with a company called cdwow.com who, as their name suggests sell dvd's, cd,s etc. Their delivery charges to Cyprus are very reasonable and reliable, and I would recommend them to anyone.

PS: I have NO commercial interests in the company whatsoever!

My wife is telling me she has read that (althoght now in the EU) Cyprus is still charging import duty on some items. True?

There shouldnt be any import duty if it comes within the EU. Some sites usually dispatch it maybe outside from EU thats why you might get import tax
