How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Not at all. The Republic of Cyprus hasn't blocked Turkey's accession. That wouldn't be very smart. They've allowed one chapter to open and promised to attach conditions to others. In other words, the ROC has made it clear that Turkey's EU entry is dependent on Cyprus and that Turkey has to abide by EU rules and conditions if it wants to continue its EU path. Now that can't be bad can it?

I think someone should have a word with admin, the above quote has been wrongly posted and should be moved to the “joke” section immediately

and the Turks are waiting what response form GC's. You haven't won anything and EU has let Cyprus and the smaller European nations many a times a before and will do so many a times again. However, let no mistake there is no way EU is going to hand part of its perceived territory all of which includes Cyprus to anyone let alone Turkey.

Personally I think EU is not worth a shit if they cannot tell an invading country to piss off or apply the bloomin sanctions.

This game ain't over and Turkey ain't gonna win.

The Council of the EU conclusions pertaining to Turkey and enlargement:

13. Recalling its conclusions of 11 December 2006 and the declaration of 21 September 2005, the Council notes with deep regret that Turkey, despite repeated calls, continues refusing to fulfil its obligation of full non-discriminatory implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Association Agreement. In the absence of progress on this issue the Council will maintain its measures from 2006, which will have a continuous effect on the overall progress in the negotiations. Furthermore, Turkey has not made progress towards normalisation of its relations with the Republic of Cyprus. The Council invites the Commission to monitor closely and specifically report on all issues covered by the declaration of the European Community and its Member States of 21 September 2005 in its forthcoming annual report. On this basis, the Council will continue to closely follow and review progress made, in accordance with its conclusions of 11 December 2006. Progress is now expected without further delay.

14.As emphasised by the Negotiating Framework, the Council also expects Turkey to actively support the ongoing negotiations aimed at a fair, comprehensive and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem within the UN framework, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and in line with the principles on which the Union is founded. Turkey's commitment and contribution in concrete terms to such a comprehensive settlement is crucial.

Oh dear, is that the sound of a Turk pissing in the wind? Keep up that attitude and see how far it gets you. I look forward to your great alliance with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. That'll teach those pesky Europeans to try and civilize you.

Just to make things clear, it is now official that 14 (8+6) out of a total of 35 accession talk chapters are now indefinetly blocked. By the way, the ROC announced that it is blocking a further 6 chapters and not 5 as the FT article pasted above suggests. The sixth chapter is that on Energy. Four years into accession talks and Turkey with it's stance managed to have 14 chapters indefinetly blocked. With this rate, in another 4 years there will be nothing to negotiate on.

This new failure of the RoC, which means that Turkey continues the accession process with no real cost, that the deadline achieved by Tpap has been wasted, that no new deadline has been set for Turkey to implement the protocol and that Cyprus found itself completely isolated, is the direct outcome of Christofias's failed policy..

This is the price Cyprus is paying because its president is living in illusions and thinks that if he keeps bending over everyone will "like him" and be "his friend"..

Perhaps now he will see the light and do us all a favour and either change the tune or go home.
