EU urges Turkey to do more on accession process

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Best thing would be for the RoC to use it's veto until they have an agreement they are happy with, all other EU member states would do the same, and see how Turkey reacts.

If Cyprus believes that it is more important to the EU than Turkey is what has it got to lose.

Its completely in Cyprus's interests to see Turkey in the EU after a solution has been reached in Cyprus. Until then it is impossible for any EU member state to allow a nation currently illegally occupying its land to enter into the EU.

I'm afraid Turkey has a lot of work to do in order to convince Cyprus that it is ready to join the EU.

Are you sure? Given that Turkey will have the same 4 freedoms, movement of good, capital, services and people that all other members have expect an influx of Anatolians seeking opportunity.

LOL

The EU is not going to admit Turkey. Greek Cyprus will see to that.

How Turkey behaves with Kurds, Armenians, Human Rights, Freedom of speech etc have as much to do with whether they are suitable for the EU as the prime indicator which is their willingness to leave Cyprus and abandon their illegal expansionist plans.

Why doesn't it take a leaf from the EU's book on how to expand .... (i.e. not by forceful invasion!)

OOOOHHHHHH, so expansion with bribes is alright then?

If you view the observance of an alliance of civilised life, with due moral and legal obligations, as only a "bribe", than your development is even more arrested than was supposed.

Not that, the billions they pay for countries to join. What do you call that?
The west is far from civilized. Ask Gandhi if you have the time machine.

Turkey is being offered 4 billion. How much did Cyprus get when she joined?
Do you not listen to the news or read the newspapers. Swine, I forgot again, you live in the roc where they feed you bullshit in the media. Turkey is being offered 4 billion. Why do you think they want to join, when they can freely trade with it.

Cyprus is a net CONTRIBUTOR to the EU budget. Cyprus gives more than what she takes back because thankfully, Cyprus has a fairly decent economy that doesn't break the EU rules ragarding % national debt. Turkey on the other hand has massive debt and requires huge amounts of EU structural funding that all aspiring member states get in order to harmonise their economies and isnstitutions to EU norms.

But what about pre-accession aid? TCs got 259million, how much did GCs get?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/2266385.stm

In 2005, the 10 countries which joined the EU in 2004 received about 4bn euros (£2.7bn) more from the EU than they paid into the budget. This comes to about 4% of the EU budget, which is itself about 1% of the EU's gross national income.

In 2006, Bulgaria and Romania are getting about 1.5bn euros in pre-accession aid.

You may find your answers here...

http://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/glo ... os5_en.htm

It states:

"Cyprus is not covered by the Phare programme and therefore comes under different arrangements. A financial protocol awarded it total assistance of EUR 72 million for the period 1996-2000."

That's assistance for the hopeless Turkish Cypriots who can't do anything right. They’re treating you like a 3rd world people in need, whereas Cyprus pays more than she gets!

Not in any way connected to the 35 years of ambago and the effect on the economy. It's purely down to hopeless TCs. And what are you? A hopeless git.
