I read that in 1870 Scotch was so bad that Irish and American distillers added an "e" to differentiate between their product and inferior Scotch. The reputation of Scottish whisky was very poor as Scottish distilleries flooded the market with cheaper spirits produced using the Coffey still.^ a b c Magee, Malachy (1980). Irish Whiskey - A 1000 year tradition. O'Brien press. pp. 144. ISBN 0862782287.

Look at your source - perhaps Magee and Malachy publishing through O'Brien press might try to put a downer on Scottish whisky and 'sex up' the Irish version.

No scotch in the world could compare with 12 y.o. Canadian club. The Canuck's refined to a ridiculous point during US prohibition. I even prefer Suntori Japanese Kamikaze Whisky to some cheap scotch- Do you guys get crap scotch like "100 pipers". That is rough as guts. I think the distiller's wife should give away 100 pippes as compensation to the Human race.
