Isle of Jura, a fine malt and not too pricey.

I prefer Glenlivet as an everyday kind of Scotch. Oban and Lagavulin are treats; Glenrothe is for very special occasions.

The only Scotch I've ever disliked is Macallan (I think 12-year old). Just too oaky for my taste.

"Why Scotch whisky must remain Scottish"

I read that in 1870 Scotch was so bad that Irish and American distillers added an "e" to differentiate between their product and inferior Scotch. The reputation of Scottish whisky was very poor as Scottish distilleries flooded the market with cheaper spirits produced using the Coffey still.^ a b c Magee, Malachy (1980). Irish Whiskey - A 1000 year tradition. O'Brien press. pp. 144. ISBN 0862782287.
