Another Grand Chamber judgment coming up this week at the ECHR.

This coming Thursday, 26 November 2009....

(from the ECHR site, press releases, forthcoming judgments)

Anthousa Iordanou v. Turkey (no. 46755/99)
This case concerns the applicant’s allegation that the Turkish occupation of the northern part of Cyprus deprived her of access to her property. She relies on Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 (protection of property)

Wonder which way this one will go?

Ooh err, missus. Make up your mind. Are you Harry Enfield, Tommy Cooper or Sid James?

For witty, humourous banter to work, YFred, and not come across as random nonsense, there must be some easy, clever correlation between one post and the next. By way of example, I connected:

a) Your "Carry on courting" comment (which sounds suspiciously like the title of a "Carry on" film);

With:

b) Your being ribbed for being farcical, like Tommy Cooper and moany, like Kevin (Harry Enfield's teenage boy character).

And so came up with:

c) A reference to you being a third comic performer, veteran of the "Carry On" films, Sid James.

The sting being that your posts are becoming more and more comical. That's banter.

You, on the other hand, make a seemingly random reference to my being Roman, and everyone will have been left thinking, WTF?

Let's analyse further. I realise the comedy Roman character "Lurcio" was played by another "Carry On" veteran, Frankie Howerd, who also used the "ooh err, missus" catchphrase. But the link is somewhat tenuous and would have lost a lot of people. Of course, many won't even know who Lurcio was.

To make matters worse you then endeavour to connect Lurcio to "Bigus Dickus", another comedy Roman, this time from Monty Python's "Life of Brian". And there, presumably, is your rather clumsy sting, that somehow your adversary is a big dick. ()

But you realise it's clumsy and tenuous. So you and try and make it work better by asking whether I'm Roman, as though this too were some kind of insult, which of course it isn't. And so, ultimately, we're left with a complete mess of a retort.

My advice. Think your retorts through more carefully - making sure the connections work while being mindful of your audience's knowledge of popular culture. Or, better still, give up on banter altogether, YFred. Because although, like Tommy Cooper, you're farcical, unlike him, you're not funny. Sorry.

You got in one. What is there to worry about? However you missed the connection being a roman. Rome took over from the Greek empire and naturally the Greek women to. Need I explain any further. Our mission on this forum must also be to educate people on the English culture as it's official language is English, not just the CypProb. They will just have to learn. If you keep talking about what they already know, how will they expand their horizons.

What kind of education system have you gone through? Me? I had the best, Trahona Uni.

Oh and stumbled across this one for our tissy friends to look forward to....

Sofi v Cyprus. !!!!!

Before the Grand Chamber on the 28th January 2010

... which amongst other things will scrutinise the work of the Republic's Custodian of Tissy Properties, which has been long overdue. Look forward to seeing this office coming under the scrutiny of the ECHR.

Good luck with this one boys and girls.

Was the fact that roc did everything they could to prevent GCs from applying to the said commission taken into consideration by these brown tounge arse licking judges? Or were they looking the other way at the time?
As a country that has been invaded by a larger nation killed and pillaged our people we are using every means possible to regain our properties just like you are using your guns to keeps us out we use the legal system to regain our properties and indeed our human rights and nation, which we are happy to share with thse same Turkish speaking Cypriots who invited the atila.

Not in a million years would I or anyone else have made that connection from your Roman reference. YFred, as I suspected, you're having a village festival in your head and forgot to send out any invites.

If you say so YFred. My view is that people's horizons can only be expanded if they know what the hell you're talking about...

Being aware of yourself and mindful of others has nothing to do with education; official or unofficial. It's self taught.
