How can I get 2 desktops to communicate (mainly for transferring files) in a simple easy way. Can I connect them by using USB? Thanks.

There is a crossover network cable you can connect them with and they will communicate without the need for a hub.

Is this through USB ports?

Nope, ethernet in. This cable has pins on it's both ends.(see photo below) Plug one pin to the ethernet in of one pc and the other pin to the ethernet in of other pc.

Then create shared folders in both computers. Restart both PCs, double click on my network places, u should see the shared folder there...

Ps:If 2 PCs have more than 7-8 meters of distance from each other, it is recommended using a hub switch.

Hope it helps, Kafenes. :)

Thanks to you both. I will try and get the connection tomorrow and try it. It will save me a hell of a time.

Alternatively...you can take the HDD from one of the desktops and plug it into the other desktop and do your file transfers faster/easier (without any cables)

Don't you have a router? I remember you were looking to buy one some time ago. If you have a router then you don't need a crossover. If both computers are connected to the router either with a wire or WiFi then you don't need any more cables to share files between the computers.

Yes Sotos, I do have a router and they are both connected to the router. It's a Intellinet Wireless N Broadband Router. How to go about transfering files?
