Applying for a certificate of residence

Postby Tim Drayton » Tue Nov 17, 2009 12:26 pm

Does anybody know which department an EU permanent resident of Cyprus should approach to apply for a certificate of residence, or indeed if any such thing exists in the Republic of Cyprus? (It needs to be what the authorities in Turkey will accept as an "ikametgah belgesi"). This document needs to show the address at which I reside. Thanks in advance if anybody can offer any advice.

Are you talking about the "yellow slip"?

No, I have got that. I am talking about an official document which certifies that I reside at my address.

I think there is an address on the yellow slip and when you applied for it you probably had to take a certificate from Kinotarhis (Mouhtaris) certifying that you were living at that address. I don't think you need anything more.

Looking at my yellow slip, I see that it carries the temporary address that I was first living at when I came to Cyprus, and not my current address. I do not remember ever supplying the certificate that you mention, but I think this is actually the document I need. I live in a municipal area, so I suppose I would apply to my local town hall. They certainly know who to send the annual bill for municipal services to, so they must have some record there of my address.

I think the Greek equivalent of what I am looking for is (although this may be an explanation rather than the official name):

έντυποκαταγραφής στοιχείων διαμονής

I am not sure Tim. When the government wants a certificate for the address you live they ask one from Kinotarhis (Mouhtaris) not from the Town Hall. These people are not just in villages. Limassol city has several for example. But if you ask at the Town Hall they will direct you.

Thanks, I have had a Cyprus ID for ages. What I need is a 'certificate of residence'. It sounds like I need to locate the Kinotarhis (Mouhtaris). I am sure they will direct me there from the town hall. Thanks for the help.
