How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Part of President Mehmet Ali Talat’s Speech on 15 November 09 (unofficial translation)

Today, we are celebrating yet another anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is the concrete expression of self-administration of Turkish Cypriot people.

...

Cyprus is our homeland... This country belongs to all of us. Our priority is to dignify it and to lift it to the level of developed countries. As life continues, we Turkish Cypriots will continue to exist. And we will continue to dignify our Cyprus as we have done for centuries. No power or intent will be able to eradicate us from this land....

...

We, Turkish Cypriots, have shown the whole world that we have the strength, the skill and the capacity for self-administration, and that we are capable of succeeding to solve all the problems we face, including the Cyprus problem.

Let’s remember this reality together and remind those, who have forgotten or who turn a blind eye:

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with its declaration of establishment, had announced this reality to the world: “The declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus does not prevent the reestablishment of a partnership between two equal peoples under a federation.”

This means that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, even in its declaration of establishment, had envisaged to unite two politically equal peoples, namely the natural owners of Cyprus - Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots - under a federal partnership, through their own administrative mechanisms formed after 1974. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not a project of separation or fighting, but rather, a means of reconciliation and peace.

On this anniversary, I would like to convey the good-will message included in the declaration of establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to our Greek Cypriot counterparts: The Turkish Cypriot people are ready to share this beautiful island with you. Come and contribute to our efforts aimed at a solution; don’t prevent our beautiful island from becoming an island of friendship and cooperation.

...

We have to observe a certain reality once again on this meaningful anniversary; the level to which we have lifted the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is a much higher and honorable position, in comparison with the past. We have an administrative mechanism that we established from scratch with the support of the Republic of Turkey, and the dedicated efforts of our people. It is impossible to disregard and deny the level to which the TRNC has risen.

...

We are making efforts to find a bi-zonal, bi-communal solution based on the political equality of the two peoples and the equal status of two Constituent States, in the form of a new partnership. We draw our strength from the TRNC citizens’ desire for solution, and we are supported by Turkey.
...

In our struggle to solve the Cyprus problem, we believe that we will be able to reconcile with our Greek Cypriot counterparts, without compromising the basic rights of our people. With this belief, we are carrying on with the negotiations process with determination.

As Turkish Cypriots, we are working intensely but cautiously to find a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem. In the negotiations with our Greek Cypriot counterparts, our strategy is to work to make quick progress and to encourage those interested in a solution to contribute.

We are pursuing such an active policy because Turkish Cypriot people need a solution. However, we know that the solution of the Cyprus problem will be to the advantage of humanity. Solution would be our biggest contribution to humanity.

Cyprus can serve as a pioneer in the project of turning inter-cultural conflicts - which have become the biggest problem of the world - to inter-cultural friendships. I believe that it should be our goal to serve as a motivation for the solution of disagreements, elimination of the anachronistic discrimination based on colour, language, religion and race, and the creation of a peaceful world.

The Turkish Cypriot people, who already have the culture of such an understanding and behaviour, are determined to contribute to the creation of a new word. They have never lost their determination.

...

Even though the declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus 26 years ago, was perceived as ‘an obstacle in front of solution,’ the continuous search for solution by the Turkish side and the strong pro-solution stance by the Turkish Cypriot people in the April 2004 referenda, have changed this perception.

Today, no serious statesman can suggest that the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the reason for lack of solution in Cyprus.

I would like to call on those, who cannot duly assess the reasons of change in the international perception of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. I would like to call on those, who attempt to present the clear will of Turkish Cypriots in April 2004, as an unimportant, passing fad. The people’s will in 24 April was not just a show of support for a certain solution plan. 24 April was the declaration of the desire and determination of the Turkish Cypriot people to reach a solution that would safeguard their rights and interests. And at the same time, 24 April was a demonstration of the right of Turkish Cypriots to determine their own fate and was a historic step forward. Even if solution plans change, even if we have differences over the content of a solution, the will of Turkish Cypriots for solution has not changed and will not change.

...

By demonstrating our desire for solution, we dignified the TRNC. We enabled it to be more accepted in the world, not as a ‘separatist entity,’ but rather, as the legitimate representative of Turkish Cypriot people.

...

On this meaningful anniversary, I would like to call on the whole world, and especially the Greek Cypriot side, to respect the 450-years-old capacity of the Turkish Cypriot people to govern itself. Come join the Turkish Cypriots in the solution process. Let’s turn South Eastern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean into a region of cooperation and set a good example to the whole world!

Perhaps Talat should respect that such "governance" was sold to the Brits and then won back only by the sole efforts of the Greek Cypriots.

So he can fuck back to his motherland and take his few remaining "TCs" with him ...

That's it, I had enough, and I’ve packed my bags, where should I go? I think Nicosia south seems to be a good bet. They pay good money for refugees. But first I'll pop around to Mecca to put a bet on, what's the odds, 3 to 1?

Congradulations to the Turks for going through their sex change 26 years ago in Cyprus. Did anyone mention to them yet that they're still Turks?
