Then why my dear friend dont you go do some community work for 2 years and then come to comment to the peoples attitude for working in the army for 2 years like a slave

Immature as you are obviously NOT learning/growing from your experiences; you have not said one positive thing about being in the army, no pride in serving your country etc, just whinge, whinge, whinge!

By the way, I do enough 'community' work thanks all the same! (and it's more than any two paltry years!)

As I said the training only takes 6 months originally and not 2 years. Those other years is to use you as a slave to service and clean their military weapons. If the government really cared about their people they would see this from this aspect but no its all fine just sitting behind their fancy desks and just bossing people around.

The reason it takes 26 months and not just the 6 months of the training is because we need to have the numbers serving. We need the numbers to cover the green line and we need the numbers to maintain the ratio with the Turks.

We do our service and we shut up about it.

The saddest part is how we are locked into this necessary way of life because of the threats from Turkey. I'm eternally grateful and proud of the sacrifices the male youth make of their young lives, and living the rest of their lives coloured by the possibility of having to fight.

I'll just say a big sincere Thank You now, without sounding patronising, and I hope we achieve the real peace and lack of threat to end obligatory Military Service.

And the sooner the protection of our (real) EU borders against Turkey is recognised as euro-centred, the sooner we can spread the load amongst our fellow Europeans and not depend on our diminishing GC population.
