Oh dear it does sound a tad tough for a non-regular. What can I say ? I suppose the idea is to toughen up the young and hopefully turn you into a fighting machine.

FragnaticDeath wrote:And here is where your mistaken once again! I bet 30000euro right now cause you have no clue how the army base of KEN paphou is. And how is it in anyway a hotel? Is there aircondition? NO! Is there proper beds? NO its those old ones that have always been used in the army and never been changed. Is the food good? NO again the food is kinda dangerous to eat cause the kitchen is so dam dirty, i have seen a few cockroaches walking by in lines. Is the trainning of soldiers proper? NO Who idiot would take a person to do training at 40-42 celcius? The freaking radiation from the SUN can penetrate right through your skull. I bet you heard what ILIASIS is?

The base where I was in tanks it was even more fucked up. We didnt have a chef it was actually a soldier who didnt give a fuck about how to cook the food. I spent 2 winters with no heater were temperatures would reach 0 celcius and it was windy cause there was a river next to the base. YOU WOULD FREEZE YOUR ASS OFF on duty at nights. I even spend 2 months in those winter periods cause the kernel banned the usage of sleeping bags and were only allowed to use those shitty dirty blankets of the army. The blankets are so dirty that you can actually get Psoriasis from it. Clean it? What the hell until next week it gets back to its original situation

Dude i can seriously find a million fucking reasons why the army should be shut down for the way they treat you. UNHUMAN.

Now someone will pop in and say. Well in my days we had worse conditions. Well dude you were raised up through your childhood to withstand such conditions. If you took a person from 200B.C and made him do the army at your time it would be easy as eating a pie.

People have to understand it does depend how you were raised and in what conditions. The sudden changes of your enviroment lead you to nervous breakdowns.

I had a soldier in my year that committed suicide.

Now we come to this question again "IS IT WORTH risking your health just to pleasure some fucktards officers who treat you like crap?"

Bare in mind that is no soldiers choice to join the army. And not everyone has the pleasure to be in a good base with heaters and airconditions and play ps2 or xbox360 whenever we want. Not everyone has that choice. I SURE WASN'T

I am up for discussion

Sorry but you are one of the main reasons that if Turks decide to invade Cyprus (for what's left of it) they'll do it with unparalleled ease. You my friend need to grow a pair and learn what the real army is. When you go to war you wont have airconditioning or proper food and not even a bed at all. The army should not be a place where you go to spend 2 years in "ideal situations", it's a place where you go to be prepared for war FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. It's ONLY 2 years of your WHOLE life where you get to learn what you might need to put in use in 10, 20 , 30 years from now. Jesus, what's wrong with you people...

And by doing those 2 YEARS people have other plans for their LIVES. Not everyone finishes school to go to work at his family busness or whatever with a preferable ease. Some people dont have this capability in their life. They want to be fresh with their knowledge to go at a University to make something out of themselves.

They dont wanna go in the army spend 2 years sitting around watching walls or cleaning guns and watch their brain shutdown. Cause yeah if your in a closure not doing anything just routines you do get dumber by the day. For GODS sake at least make it 1 year. 2 years is so fucking overrated. You basicly learn everything you need to know in just 6 months even less.

And kangarooster wtf do you learn in todays army go on tell me? Oh its those 10x they take you to shoot 20 bullets with a gun each time? You actually spend more time cleaning plates or mopping the floor for crying out loud. Discipline to the higher commanders?

No its actually patience your building up cause of the bullshit that most of the times they talk about.

As I said the training only takes 6 months originally and not 2 years. Those other years is to use you as a slave to service and clean their military weapons. If the government really cared about their people they would see this from this aspect but no its all fine just sitting behind their fancy desks and just bossing people around.

And kangarooster what are you a woman or male? cause from my point of view you sound like a woman that the only thing you do is criticize and not pointing out points correctly

And purdey was on the only to give some good appreciated comments! respect

My husband's cousin had to do his army service and in those days there were a number of officers from Greece who were involved in their training.

One day, they were all assembled and the officer gave a speech, saying: "I'm going to make men of you all."

In the silence, a voice sounding something like Tweety Pie (because he had a speech impediment) said rather loudly: Nai, na mas kaneis skata!"

The officer went raving mad and all the recruits were almost on the floor doubled up with laughter.
