i wanna know which company pays their techs 2300 euros a month so i can go work there! if a goverment job for someone without a degree has a starting wage of 1250 euro a month then yeah 1600 a month sounds absurd at first but not so much after you counter in all the little details. people making well under 1000 are people who dont work the full 8 hours or 5 days of the week or people who don't do jobs to actually justify a lot more than 600-700 euro really. i think it all depends on a persons situation.

myself, i make around 1.8k a month right now which is incredibly good being single and living in a place of my own not paying for rent. but still i spend it all up very very fast and i'm usually pennyless almost a week before i get paid :P (i got a problem of spending before i get the money :( )

THE AVERAGE monthly wage in Cyprus during the second quarter of the year was €1,697, or €1,882 for men and €1,467 for women, the Statistics Department said yesterday.

The Department said the wage reached in the second quarter was up 5.4 per cent over the same period last year. When broken down again into men and women’s wages, the rise in the salaries for men was 4.9 per cent and for women 6.3 per cent.

Despite this, men still earn on average around 25 per cent more than women

The salaries of government employees were not included in the data. Neither were the wages in the construction sector because of re-negotiated pay deals that would have skewed the data.

“In both cases, the increase in wages and salaries will be recorded in the third quarter of the year, when the arrear payments materialised,” said the Statistics Department.

While wages and salaries were some 5.0 per cent up during the period under review, inflation increased at almost the same rate, or slightly higher.

The average wage in Cyprus appears to be extremely low by other standards within Europe and elsewhere.

In fact, such an average wage is considered to be below the poverty line in Australia. You would definitely not be able to afford to buy a house, and you would be living week to week, struggling to make ends meet. There would be no room for any luxury in your living, and rent would consume most of your income if you did not own your home as you would be unable to obtain a loan to buy a home.

So how do Cypriots make ends meet, if the above figures are accurate? :?

Is the average wage outlined above adequate?

Seems to me that the best option for those wanting to live in Cyprus is to go it alone and start up their own business and not work for any bugger!

Excluding these buggers brings the average down, especially as what they earn when they actually make an effort while illegally running their kiosks/shops/whatever, never appears in the statistics!

Don't get me started on Government teachers that do a crap job at school so they can give illegal private lessons in the afternoons to their own pupils!

i wanna know which company pays their techs 2300 euros a month so i can go work there!

The top end is for Systems Engineers who have industry accreditations, and especially for OSs that are rare but still in use like AIX, etc.

AIX?

Yeah, there are a few of these servers in large organizations like the reserve bank, and only a handful of people that can deal with them earning top dollar.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_AIX

Remember when Novel Netware was hot ages ago and everyone wanted to jump on their bandwagon? The IT industry (software & hardware) is very volatile and thus “dangerous” career-wise because you could spend a lot of time and money specializing in something only to find that it’s no longer in use 5 years later! :?

Does Cisco, MS, Oracle etc etc fall into this bracket??

Industry accredited (ie: MCSE, MCP, PPL, PPE, etc) Systems Engineers of the above well-known brands; which make up around 95% of the market, should earn the highest of salaries too except for the specialized and rare OSs I mentioned.
