Car Tax

Postby johbee » Fri Nov 06, 2009 1:21 pm

When, if ever, is the government going to do away with the ridiculous tax on cars? I heard that the EU is fining them since this tax is against EU regulations, but the income the government gets far exceeds the fine. The dealers are complaining about the car sales, but lets face it the tax is ridiculous. A new Jag XF will set you back 40k in the UK, but in Cyprus it's 85k. Also the government wants to get old cars off the road, yet the tax policy penalizes anyone who wants to buy a new car. The older the car the lower the tax. What gives with the moronic politicians?

what do you want a jag for? There crap cars anyway.

Buy a Mini instead less tax and a fine piece of German engineering.

I think Jaguars are most wonderful cars, more soulful than BMWs, more beautiful than M-B; and now they are even reliable! One of India's finest cars!

the key to the short term future of cars belongs to BMW

2L twin turbo engine pumping out 200bhp and gets 55 miles to the gallon combined consumption... this record has yet to be broken in the 3 years this engine is out

new 2010 efficient dynamics 320d gets almost 70 while still keeping 165hp

you will not find a luxury car with these types of figures anywhere.

Already have a Jag and would have to say it's one of the best cars I ever had. In fact I dumped a 520 BMW because it spent more time in my mechanic's garage than mine. Minis are really for racer boys and hair dressers. In fact the wife fancies minis (cars that is), but not too practical when hauling three kids around town for their after school lessons. Her 93 AERO gets them to school on time. As for the German engineering I keep a vintage Porsche in the garage for when I need an adreline rush. Let's not get into the repair bills on that piece of German engineering though. All this is fine, but we seem to have lost the topic of this question. When will the tax laws be changed?

I have to agree with you. A friend of mine just bought an X3 and that thing gets about 40 mpg and will push you back in your seat when you put your foot down! Problem is that the tax laws still penalize those cars because they have "big engines". Even the new 3.0 liter Jag XF gets around 40 mpg, but the tax is ridiculous.

When I first moved to Cyprus I bought a Sunbeam Alpine (not the tiger but like the Rapier but with an Alpine badge) Never made a more solid motor. Leaked oil just like all British cars but always started on the first go.
