“I cried when the TRNC was established”

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:09 pm

Nasredin Hoca was walking home with his young son for company. It was a dark night. They saw a thief trying to grind down a lock outside a shop. The young boy asked:

-What is he doing, dad?
-He is playing the violin, said Nasredin Hoca.
-But, I do not hear it, said the boy.
-You will hear it tomorrow, answered the wise man.

That is the story, more or less, halil.

Geo strategic values ofc... in the beginings... then who knows somethings else... but this is just a counter-arguement against Bill's position who considers whole of Cyprus is in EU and the so-called RoC represents whole island.

As I posted many proving news articles under "politics and elections" section; I believe that balance of the power will be shifted from west to east after the currency wars which I predict will be intensified in 2 years time.

Turkey and TRNC will have some kind of relations with EU but they will be a part of emerging Asian Union; in the first stage as the members of The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic speaking people and then as the mebers of economic and political South Eastern Asian Union that Russia also will be a member of...

Insan, they forget that that is how the EU was created in 1950 with a steel and coal agreement between France, West Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Look where it took them. Not only did it improve trade which was the original idea but it also developed socially and gave workers more rights.

They know it too; YFred but they r trying to ignore the facts that don't suit them....

What is going on in the east seems to be quite a revolution. Lets hope it continues to the benefit of everyone concerned.

I hope and wish so...

Guys,a union of Asian-Turkic speaking states is a pipe dream. The leaders of most of the countries in that 'union' are dictators who are only concerned with maintaining power and don't give a damn about anything else - especially other Turkic speaking peoples. To compare it to the EU is laughable.

There r stages of forming an Asian Union, eh? What was the sitution in Europe in the begining of formation of EU? On the other hand, u need to pay a closer attention to the reforms and developments of Turkic states besides all other Asian countries.

Moreover no one compared it to the EU.

The comparison was made earlier with how the EU began in the 1950's. However, more importantly the reforms that you have mentioned are what exactly? As far as I can see from Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan there isn't one proper law abiding human rights respecting government in place. Depending on your take one could include Turkey in this but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't want to be too critical but objectively speaking, there is no political will to establish such as union and indeed, there doesn't exist the culture to do so.

A good chunk of these states are former Soviet republics, the Russians will not look too kindly to a new form of political power emerging in their sphere of influence. Georgia is practically a US client and nobody did squat last year. Who is going to jump to the defence of the Kyrgyz Republic?

@ Cypriot Nick and James_Mav

Establishment of Parliamentary Assmebly of Turkic Speaking People, the alliance to trade with national currencies instead of US dollar and Euro among many Asian countries including Turkey, Russia, Chiana, Iran which r some giants of Asia, Iran's recent call for establishment of Asian Union, Japan's call for establishment of an Asian Union and using a single currency among 16 ASEAN member countries, establishment of Gulf Monetary Council, the discussions on Asian Union at latest ASEAN summit all strongly indicates that there r developments all around Asia to establish an Asian Union in very near future.

ASEAN Leaders Argue Over Shape Of Asian Union
By KhronoStock on October 28, 2009

Asia’s moves toward an EU-style community covering half the world’s population have sparked a backroom power play led by the United States, China and Japan, diplomats and analysts said Monday.

Leaders at a summit of 16 nations meeting in Thailand at the weekend heard the prime ministers of Australia and Japan set out competing visions for a regional bloc that would boost Asia’s global clout.

But beneath the talk of unity and the “Asian Century” lie intense diplomatic manoeuvrings, with countries desperate to avoid being marginalised in a new regional framework that could still be years off.

“The waters may be calm on the surface, but the undercurrent is sometimes turbulent,” a veteran Southeast Asian diplomat told AFP after the summit in the Thai beach resort of Hua Hin.

A central question is the role that the United States and China would play in any future grouping.

“Some countries want the United States to be part of a future regional framework as a counterbalance to China’s influence,” the diplomat said, asking not to be named.

Japanese premier Yukio Hatoyama, who pushed his plan at the summit for an East Asian community that could “lead the world”, would not be drawn on the extent of proposed US involvement despite Tokyo’s close ties to Washington.

Trade ties, the environment, regional security, disaster relief and human rights were just some of the items on the agenda of the 15th summit of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Thailand. The most heated topic for discussion, however, was likely to be a renewed call from Japan for 16 countries in Asia and Australasia to create an EU-style single currency area which would - if it gets off the ground - fundamentally change the global balance of power.

An Asian trading bloc centered around China and Japan is very far from what you're talking about. And given that China supposedly routinely engages in "genocide" against its muslim minority, I can't see how any kind of political union will extend from the far east to asia minor.

Sorry friend, but the ottoman empire had its time in the sun, those days are long gone, thankfully never to return. About time you people woke up to this fact, it's been nearly 100 years.

There r many obstacles in front of establishing an Asian Union that would cover whole Asian continent but as it is clearly seen there r also big efforts to overcome all these problems and establish an Asian Union stage by stage.

EU expanded it's territory from western Europe to East Mediterennean region why shouldn't an Asian Union initiated in Eastern Asia expand it's borders through Asia Minor?

This has nothing to do with return of Ottoman Empire but inevitable alliances among the region's countries to further develop their multifaceted relations in all fields; wealth, democracy and human rights... besides against any threats from outside of the union...
