Remind me again why I live in London.................

Postby GG » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:15 pm

Its been the first weekend that it rained continuous, without any sunshine at all. The first of many I imagine. My wife and I have discussed many times over the years why we dont emigrate to Cyprus. Nearly always straight after a holiday there.

I turned to her yestrday and said "remind me again why we dont move to Cyprus?" She could not think of a reason, neither could I. I havent been to Cy for a year now. Please remind me of the bad points of living there......

Agree...

England, and London in particular offer a very very poor quality of life.

+ High cost of living
+ High house prices for poor housing stock (tiny terraced houses with miniscule gardens)
+ High crime
+ No family values or morality left
+ Stressful working life
+ Long and boring commutes to work
+ Poor weather

You're better off over here.

Anywhere, actually, but there.

I am starting to see how the novelty could, just eventually, wear off.

Ok point taken, but just to play devils advocate here.
Cyprus is not exactly cheap to live anymore. The house prices are more or less equal to London Suburbs. While Cy may have slightly larger gardens, they are all full of dust. The crime well yes you are right but parts of London are very safe. i live in a quiet road in Oakwood and its very safe. Stressfull work and commutes you are 100% right. Weather here is a joke but must say, I think I'd hate that daytime heat u have.

For me the biggest obstacle for living is Cyprus is leaving decent job with decent people and good friends to come to a place that has very hostile work environments and low pay.

I'm in two minds.!!!!

In the too many years that I have lived here, I have never worked in a hostile environment. Due to the highly educated indigenous population you need to have a trade that is in demand to get a well paying job, it also helps (for obvious reasons) if you speak Greek.

When you own your own house and have got rid of your kids (who all live here), it isn't that difficult to have a much better quality of life than you can in the UK.

If you are looking for the UK in the sun, don't bother, this is Cyprus and we love it the way it is (warts an'all)!

You have nothing to offer Cyprus. Stay where you are.
