...my great aunt would feed our dog a lovely dish with chick peas boiled with bones and scraps of beef. it was so good that we as kids would eat it along with the dog.

...interesting you mention onions GR, my dog was crazy for green peppers when they were cooked and deskined.

I agree with you, quality of dog food available in Cyprus is really low, but Cypriots don't like spending to much money to feed their pets..They might spend thousands of euros to buy a dog but paying €50-€60 a month to buy food is too much for them.
I done some research and finally convinced a pet shop owner from Nicosia to try and import Orijen from UK.
Soon we should have Orijen available in Cyprus.
For the time being i feed Purina Pro Plan which works best for my dog...
I would have preferred to feed him a better quality food but that's the best there is available.
Royal Canin is no better than Pro Plan..
What breed is your dog?

Which shop would that be iceman? I bought royal canin the other day, the special mix for golden retrievers and it cost me about 65 eure. Orijen wont be much more expensive, surely.

Top premium dog food such as Royal Canine or Pro-Plan or Hill's cost in the region of 60-65 euros for a 15kg bag. (which is expensive compared to other countries)
Orijen is slightly more expensive in UK so i expect it to be dearer than the above brands in Cyprus, but its well worth it.

Dogs are scavengers. They thrive on scraps left over from 'balanced' human diets ... bread, meat-ends, vegetables. Anyone who thinks they love their dog more by buying expensive dog-food is simply boosting their own ego (and the profits of the pet-food manufacturers ... and I should know, I did research for one of the most profitable, as they laughed all the way to the bank! )
