royal mail airmail and parcelforce

Postby souroul » Fri Oct 30, 2009 7:35 pm

are these reliable? airmail signed for seems to be priced just right, but considering that parcelforce and the rest of the courier services start at about 3 times as much, one would question its reliability.

who delivers royal mail airmail in cyprus, is it the regular post office (as in, get a slip in your mailbox and go pick it up) or EMS door to door?

anyone want to share their experiences with mail arriving from the UK.

thanks

PS. only for ppl living within major city limits pls

well, the mail leaves the uk ok and arrives in cyprus ok, it all depends on the postman in cyprus, bare in mind most of them are bloody lazy and half of them keep the parcles!!
go on interparcel.com...very good prices, you have to put the weight and measurements in and they give you the best price and even come to you to collect it.
there is a strike with royal mail in the uk right now so aare better off doing this with interparcle.com

We send on average 300 small parcels to Cyprus per month. We send Royal Mail Airsure which is a trackable signed for service with insurance.
I can honestly say we have not lost a parcel as yet. All tend to arrive within 7 days of pick up. Cost for the service is £3.50 plus the weight of the contents.
As far as the strike is concerned it is not affecting business mail and from what I gather from Royal mail Special Delivery and Airsure is getting preference over normal mail.

well airsure is not available in cyprus, at least thats what the website says. even if it was, the 2kg limit is a dealbreaker..

what royal mail signed for? do you get a slip in the mail and go get the package from the post office?

Airsure is available for business accounts. But 2kg is the limit. You will need to use Parcel Force which is regarded as snail mail, can take up to three weeks to arrive but is insured and it can be sent requiring a signature.
Signed for service is genarlly based again on weight, it is delivered via normal mail and a signature is required upon arrival. If it cannot be signed for upon arrival a slip is left asking the receiver to pick up from the nearest sorting office. if not picked up within 10 days it is returned to sender.

Do NOT use Parcelforce!!! Hate them!!!

I had to buy a £350 jacket off eBay TWICE because Parcelforce lost it, and they wouldn't even admit it! They faked my signature as well....

On my birthday I woke up to find a massive Parcelforce box outside my house, opened it and found a very rare and expensive antique vase inside, when I checked the box I noticed it was for soneone else....

Parcelforce just dumped it because all the drivers are self employed and get paid according to the amount of deliveries they make....

Wrong. Postmen in Cyprus do not deliver the parcels at all. They deliver a little slip telling you that you have a parcel and instructing you to come and collect it from your local post office.

I have bought quite a few items via e-Bay in the five years that I have been in Cyprus. Everything has been delivered to me by mail and nothing has ever gone missing.

Obviously, each e-bay vendor has their own policy. As far as I recall, most stuff from the UK was sent from a post office using the standard service. This is then delivered by the state postal service here, with your regular postman dropping off a slip in your letter box. (I live in the Limassol urban area so we have postal deliveries to our doorstep.) You should get the parcel within about a week of posting. If it is signed for, you have to show ID at the post office when collecting.

I have just checked with my mum, who has lived in Cyprus since 1990 and knows a lot of British people living here. She says that the parcel service from the UK to Cyprus is 100% reliable - she has never heard of a single case of something going missing. Ignore the above ill informed comment about half the postmen keeping the parcles [sic]!
