Suicide Bombs Kill Dozens at Shrine in Iran on Eve of Holiday

(Dec. 15) -- Suicide bombers attacked worshippers at a mosque today in southeastern Iran, killing at least 39 on the eve of a mourning holiday marked by Shiites around the world.

Today's twin bombings took place at the Imam Hussein Mosque in the port city of Chahbahar, near the Pakistani border. The director of the morgue, Fariborz Ayati, told the state news agency IRNA that the bodies have been delivered there and that "a number" of women and children were among them. More than 100 people were wounded, IRNA said.

While no one has claimed responsibility for today's attacks, the area is home to a Sunni Muslim militant group that's used multiple suicide bombers to attack Shiites in the past. The group, Jundallah, or "Soldiers of God" in Farsi, says it's avenging alleged discrimination against Iran's Sunni minority. Last month, the U.S. officially listed Jundallah as a terrorist group.

Unidentified local officials told state-run Press TV that they'd received bomb threats during the past three days.

IRNA also reported that a suspect has been arrested, though it's unclear whether he was a would-be bomber whose explosives failed to detonate. Among state media, reports differed as to whether there were one, two or three blasts.

Tehran - Two suicide bomb attacks killed 39 people outside a mosque during a Shi'a religious ceremony in south-eastern Iran on Wednesday, a strike Jundollah rebels said was retaliation for the execution of their leader in June.

In a statement on its website, the Sunni Muslim group said it was responsible for the bombings outside the Imam Hussein Mosque in Chabahar, which also wounded more than 100 people.

Mother cuts out the heart of her daughter, four, as she listens to recording of Koran in ritual killing

A mother has been arrested after a four year old girl was found stabbed to death with her heart and other organs cut out and strewn around her flat.

The 35-year-old woman was allegedly sitting in a her kitchen chanting verses of the Koran as her daughter's disembowelled corpse lay next to her.

The little girl's heart and other other organs were found in different rooms around the flat in Clapton, east London.
