This is all sad. However it was the religion of peace that enabled for Jews and Christians to live side by side for all these centuries. How else can one explain the presence of these ancient communities in the Middle east and North Africa? It is mankinds own actions that do these horrible things and nothing to do with religion. It is the polarisation of the super powers that have corrupted mans mind. Is there a way back 'God' only knows. Please dont ask which God. I am doubting his existence as the days go by. IMHO.

I am sure some will disagree, but then we are human.

The savagery of these groups of people cannot be condoned though. How do we stop them - Perhaps 'the horse has already bolted through the stable doors'. Do we hunt them down or what?

No denying that for some time, countries of the Middle East and North Africa did coexist relatively peacefully with Jews and Christians, though the latter suffered certain discrimination. And in the 20th century, Jews were expelled, property confiscated by most (though not all) of these countries in their outrage at Israel's creation and continued existence.

But I'm with you, the whole affair is sad and ominous and threatens everybody. What can or should be done to contain this, no idea. Nothing seems to be working well.

Deniz, I hope you do not let the sickening actions of select groups of human beings interfere with your own faith in God and beliefs. He is there, I believe - just probably distancing Himself from his creation, which He must regret immensely.

Indeed the 'abyss' between me and the creator as defined by the 'books' is growing by the day.

I trust mankind more than religion. It is mankind that need to 'live and let live'. Religion has been abused by those in power to their own ends.

ITTAN WALLI, Pakistan – In early November, in the dusty city of Sheikhupura in Pakistan’s heartland, Asia Bibi, an illiterate Christian woman and mother of five, was sentenced to death by hanging under the country’s blasphemy laws.

If it be mandatory to respect the name of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) and punishable by death for insulting his name (or tenets) in a country where such is the Law, how does it become so objectionable if a person who breaks the Law, has to face the consequences meted BY the Law ?.

Jesus Christ insulted nobody, yet suffered a far more horrendous fate than hanging.

I suppose that's very easy to say from the comfort of your own liberal democracy.
