Pakistani police say they have disrupted a plot to assassinate the prime minister and other top officials after engaging in a shootout with Islamist militants on Wednesday.

Seven men accused of being part of the al Qaeda-linked militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi have been arrested. Pakistani officials say the men were planning to storm Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's home in Multan in a gun-and-suicide-bomb attack.

It is infuriating that this nation , the UK , has tolerated and may I say encouraged these extreme fanatics to exist and live amongst us. I know many Pakistani , Bangladeshi and other Muslims from that region of the world that want nothing to do with the extreme elements within their faith. They can do nothing since the authorities would turn a blind eye to their cries of help. Typical Traffic Warden mentality.

OSAMA bin Laden told France yesterday that al-Qa'ida would kill its citizens until it pulled out of Afghanistan and dropped its law against veils worn by Muslim women.

The warning on audio tape, posted on the website of al-Jazeera television, was aimed at raising pressure on President Sarkozy after al-Qa'ida's affiliate in North Africa kidnapped seven workers at a French uranium mine in Niger last month.

2 girls executed by Somali militant group

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — An Islamic group that controls much of southern Somalia executed two girls by firing squad, and hundreds of residents of a town were forced to view the spectacle.

Sheik Mohamed Ibrahim on Wednesday sentenced the girls to death in the town of Belet Weyne for spying for government soldiers fighting the Islamist group al-Shabab. The local al-Shabab administration appoints judges and the only needed qualifications are that the person must be a man who knows the Quran.
