I do believe the young lady in question that was stoned to death was not married and the man who she was having a relationship with was divorced; he received a 100 lashes and she was buried up to her waste and then stoned to death; strange justice.

Sadly Jimski, there are elements on this forum that believe that if this is the law of the land then we should simply accept and even respect the wishes of these barbaric and backward systems of law.

Hello Mr Ed

These "people" who are carrying out these punishments are just one of the many warring factions that terrorise the ordinary people of Somalia. In any other country with an operating goverment they would be a terrorist gang. I believe the type of Islam practiced in Somalia is Sufi (spelling?) but these thugs are trying to force on the local population a more radical form of Islam imported from Saudi Arabia so even their arguement that it is the "Law of the Land' is not correct.

Whichever way you wish to paint the picture, the systems of government (together with their legal structures no matter how base) in other nations, should NOT be constantly under the scrutiny of those of the Western powers merely because the West considers itself to be superior.

It is a very well orchestrated method of Western powers to claim that their intention is to HELP those nations which are (by comparison) materialistically backward, when in fact they seek to extract whatever natural (and other) resources such nations may possess, the notion that the Western powers are the great philanthropists of the world, suffers a severe buffeting when the practise of imposing sanctions on starving people (Zimbabwe for example) because they refuse to capitulate to the 'Will of the West' is taken into consideration.

No doubt the African nations are now awakening to the realisation that they have been exploited for long enough, as with the Arab nations, SURELY, such nations are entitled to conduct their own affairs in accordance with their own beliefs and traditions.

As Robert Mugabe DID say to Gordon Brown, "You are but a speck on the face of the earth", he had previously instructed the Western powers to "Mind your own business", such a pity that they do not listen.

Refusal to do so could well be the basic cause of ALL the problems in the Middle East and, the 'Piracy' on the high seas perpetrated by the Somalians, may well be an attempt to recover some of the wealth STOLEN by the usual Western philanthropists who were busily digging for gold, diamonds and drilling for oil.

It's possible, but you have to THINK about it.

Amnesty International has accused Tajikistan of failing to protect its women, saying nearly half are raped, beaten or abused by their families.
