My Microwave and Me - Porridge

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Oct 29, 2009 12:16 am

Here's a controversial, provocative, racist and sexist way with Porridge, for time pressed Scottish Hausfraus ....

Never had it for breakfast mind, always as a late night treat/snack......

Put a cupfull of porridge oats in a bowl.
If, like me, you have a sweet tooth, add a couple of teaspoons of sugar.
Add loads of milk. Yes milk, not fond of porridge made with water.
Give it a bit of a stir.
Shove in the microwave for 3-4 minutes on high power.
Leave to stand for a few minutes.
As a special treat drizzle over some honey or fresh cream.
Tell other half the microwave could do with a clean.

Enjoy.

AS I do not/cannot cook, Porridge is my dinner of choice for much of the year. Microwaved then I pour some Kithul (Cocnut Treacle) on it as a sweetner.

Tried it with salt once, never again; tried it with whisky once - a bit of an acquired taste.

This method takes all the fun it out of it and what do you do with your spurkle/spurtle if you use the microwave?

Not a great fan of porridge - maybe the result of having to eat it every winter morning as a child! :( Ours was always made on the stove and we sometimes substituted sugar with a spoonful of jam (usually strawberry! :) )

It's the only way I can get my oats every day. You can get it in individual packets with blueberry or golden syrup flavour too. It's supposed to be one of the healthiest cereals full of fibre. Eating porridge may mean that you use more toilet paper though.

I do not cook or iron, garden or attempt DIY - I have a guy whom comes in to do the latter. 'Life's too short for washing up'!

I really have no desire to learn to cook - maybe in my next life!
