LEADERS ANNOUNCE BREAK ON EXECUTIVE ISSUES

Postby halil » Wed Oct 28, 2009 4:10 pm

The two leaders in Cyprus have held further discussions on the competences of the federal government within the framework of the negotiation process continuing since September last year.

Talat and Christofias both told reporters at the end of their meeting that a break will be given to the talks on the issue of executive and that they would hold further discussions on the thorny issue of property next week.

The UN Special Adviser for Cyprus Alexander Downer who was also present at yesterday’s meeting said that the two leaders had a good and open discussion on governance.

Speaking to reporters on his return to the Presidential Palace, TRNC President Talat said that the two leaders discussed the issue of federal government competences.

The President said that the two leased used the meeting to ask each other questions and exchange proposals.

He noted that the two got to understand each other better although no conclusion was reached at the meeting.

In a statement after the meeting, the Greek Cypriot Leader Christofias said that issues concerning the topic of governance were difficult and that they will give a break to the discussions on the chapter.

Senior aides of the two leaders, Ozdil Nami and Georges Iacovou will meet tomorrow to prepare the groundwork for the next topic on property.

The two leaders will hold two more meetings next week, the first on Monday and the second on Friday.

Property issue will be discussed by the two leaders at the first meeting of the week but an agenda has yet to be fixed for Friday’s talks.

VP, Muhtar X finally realises what is at stake, if the talks fail. Watch them move with the discussions in the next 6 weeks.

I think they will pick up speed like a rocket.

Where is Major Tom Kickapoo these days, now that it's getting interesting.
I wonder which planet he has landed on. I bet it starts with U.

What break? The talks are, at least currently, a shambolic show being put on for the benefit of misleading the GC people.

Where can the talks end when both negotiators accepted the Annan plan in 2004 and their STARTING point for negotiation is still the AP? Common sense suggests that, after a little give and take, they will end up with a plan almost identical to the AP.

Christofias is hoping he will be able to then "sell" this to GCs with the help of Anastasiades. He is taking a major risk - upon his failure to achieve this, the RoC will pay the price - and it will be a substantial one.

Unless there is significant movement by Turks on the property/ territory issue, the plan does not have a chance of success. If the Turkish side genuinely wants a solution, they will show it on this issue. If not, then I hope Christofias will have enough brains to withdraw before subjecting GCs to another doomed referendum.

The world allready realizes that the Cyprus problem is unsolvable due to Turkeys stance. The world also realizes that you cannot create a state on invaded and occupied land. Status quo will remain and nothing will change. You will be isolated for the coming 100 years which is what you wish for. Better isolated with 40000 guns on you and the TC culture being vaged of this world than being a minority under GC rule. Sweet dreams
