Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

You want to try living in the UK Lana.

Things have been pretty crappy for over 12 months now. We frequently hear about companies going out of business or laying people off.

The public sector (i.e schools/colleges/NHS etc) are being told to cut back on spending and budgets are being slashed next financial year. This has a massive knock on effect to businesses who work with/supply the above. My line of work has been effected as I.T. projects have been put on hold or completely scrapped. The effect is huge.

The private sector are also very cautious about spending on new projects also.

I.T. is also quite a saturated market and when there a fewer projects available companies are buying the work, which means that companies make less and less profit. Some jobs we see are not worth doing as would only lose money, unless certain corners are cut!

I am only talking about working in the I.T trade so I don't know what it is like working in other trades but my opinion is that no trade is getting rich these days.

I had a charity door knocker come to my home today.

They asked me if I would sponsor a bloody pom!

After one fleeting second of being overwhelmed with love, compassion and charity, I then came to and my reply was that the bloody Poms will not use the money to buy urgently needed soap and deodorants. So I politely declined!

I have never been party to the doom and gloom the press seem to blurt out on a daily basis. Those businesses that have gone under have done so on borrowing against a poor product.
Yes the IT market is facing problems but only because of competition from cheaper suppliers and a more cost effective way of working. I honestly believe UK business has suffered very little over the past year, in fact some of the more shy sellers (Amazon) who encompass thousands of small companies are flying at the moment.
Positive attitude genrally brings positive returns, unless you rely on bank loans to forge ahead !

The problem with Government IT projects in the UK is that they normally go to to lowest bidder, who then puts the cheapest workers it can find on the job.

I have a fair bit of experience of this and have worked alongside CDC, Fujitsu, BT and others. They were all crap!!!!

I had a crack team on a Government project and we provided an excellent service, but I got bollocked by my company because we were only making 20% net on the deal (?) and the customer thought we were too expensive. They then moved to one of the companies I mentioned above because they were cheaper, and their whole system collapsed!

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys!

Come on,it's not that bad. When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps. Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing. And...always look on the bright side of life... Always look on the light side of life...

The beauty about people been down and not been positive is it leaves doors open for those who want to get on. Think positive and it genrally pays dividends.

Yes you are right in general Purdey, however, business to business I.T. sales is very difficult and with more and more companies offering (what we do) is driving the price down. We used to be able to charge £1200 per day for a technical engineer now we charge £700.

The customer has just got to type into Google or go-to the Cisco (which is what we do) website and look at the partners available. He can goto however number of companies for a price to get the best deal. The internet has turned most things into a buyers market.

FAO: CBBB - I used to work for BT and you are spot on there. Some of their service delivery is shit and they don't understand the meaning of customer service.
