The countries I listed are FINANCIAL powerhouses, and that of course also means that they are military powerhouses… make that nuclear powerhouses!

There is no comparison with the Greek shithole of stagnation…

PS: Even tiny Cyprus has surpassed Greece in many ways!

GR, Greece has a population of 11 million, therefore, economically, it is never going to be as powerful as Germany (82 million), Britain and France (over 60 million), and Italy (58 million). So please stop talking utter nonsense. The only time a country 6 times smaller is ever on equal financial terms is when the larger country is highly under developed, like India for example.

 Think, Hong Kong and Singapore!

Bye-bye Simon...

What, Hong Kong and Singapore have economies as powerful as France, Germany and Britain!

Like to see where you get your facts!

The Hong Kong and Singapore economies are not even as big as the economy of Greece, let alone the 3 above!

Bye bye...

In a speech made at the Reichstag in 1941, Hitler expressed his admiration for the Greek resistance, saying of the campaign: "Historical justice obliges me to state that of the enemies who took up positions against us, the Greek soldier particularly fought with the highest courage. He capitulated only when further resistance had become impossible and useless." The Führer also ordered the release and repatriation of all Greek prisoners of war, as soon as they had been disarmed, "because of their gallant bearing."

Inspired by the Greek resistance during the Italian and German invasions, Churchill said, "Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks.

And let us not forget the contribution of our own people in the liberation of Europe from fascism. The Cyprus Regiment was involved in the conflict from the start - making appearances in Dunkirk, Greece, Italy and Niorth Africa.

You complained about small sizes Simon and I gave you two examples of mini countries/states that have proven that size doesn’t matter but competence!

Greece, has always been the black sheep of Europe saved only by some recent EU additions that are an even darker species!

I think you do not have a clue paphitis, sorry. You make, it seems, a quick internet search and you come up with the best that fits your stereotypical view of the world. In this case you came up with the spitfires but you gave up quickly. I am sure you can find the official site of the Greek Air Force that will shed ample light on the planes purchased just prior to the Italian attack. You may also encounter another fact. The size of the Greek army that faced the Italians was bigger, especially after mobilisation.

Of course, you would rather believe that the Greeks won that contest, besides being fewer and ill equipped, fighting against all odds etc, etc, relying solely on courage and Greek "leventia" but these are football terms used by morons and I have no time for them.

Rubbish. Once reinforcements arrived, the Italians had well over 500,000 men, the Greeks, less than 300,000. The Greeks were outnumbered, with inferior equipment. The Italians were considered a major power at the time, Greece was considered an insignificant dot. This makes the Greek victory all the more remarkable.

Greece did make an attempt to modernise its armed forces before the war, but much of the ordered equipment was not delivered in time for the Italian invasion, so the Greeks had to make do with what they had.

GR, you have shown nothing, because the two economies (HK and Singapore) you mentioned above do not match up to the larger countries you referred to as economic "powerhouses". You were stating that Greece is not an economic powerhouse like say, Britain, and then mentioned Hong Kong and Singapore as alternatives, but they too are nowhere near as economically powerful as Britain, Germany and France, so your example failed miserably.
