Kataklysmos lived up to its name in Eastern Cyprus

Oh dear. I hope the weather improves before my friend Miltiades hits Cyprus in July.

Talking about the Kataklysmos, I was discussing with quattro, what I believed to be a Kataclysmos celebration in Kyrenia around 1954-56 -the period I lived there. On the occasion, I remember the young men walking the grease pole and trying to retrieve the blessed cross at the end of it. I remember the crowd cheering the young men on amid laughter and grimaces as the men slipped off the pole. Another thing I remember was that a goose or other bird was thrown into the sea and about a dozen or two men swam out to catch the swimming bird. The victor was then carried above the shoulders of the losers. Quattro did not seem to remember this. Does is not happen anymore?
