That was for the 3yrs Palio. She costed it all out the cheeky monkey! She is doing OK in the UK tho. Working part time as an ambassador for the Uni - goes out to Colleges trying to encourage students to take Science degrees and gets paid quite well to do that - she won the award for the best new ambassador earlier this year! She is supposed to be living proof you don't have to be a nerd to do a science degree lol! She also mentors students on the internet and is a volunteer helper in a school for scoundrels (well that's what I call it). She will miss the long holidays when she does eventually 'get a job'. She's had the travel bug (like her mum) most of her life.

I'd have done the piccies right away but have been moving all my thousands of images off this laptop ready for my new one coming soon!

I'm supposed to be deciding which new laptop to have before my son brings it over for me in 2 weeks. I don't have a CLUE! Can't have a Mac tho - not compatible with the work I do.

thats good that she got out and traveled and lived her life and work wont stop her i bet from doing what she loves most. and well done to her for accomplishing so much. shes not a nerd? usually they are lol ppl who do science well chemistry a lot of drug makers do that ;p

makes a lot of money and after all that still helps for free online? impressive.

you have a mac? if you dont like it or it cant do what you need you should use vmware fusion or bootcamp and put windows on there

No I don't have a Mac Palio. Been years since I had a Mac.

Just that my lappy (although still working OK) is nearly 4 yrs old now. Time for a new one.

My son sent me a list to choose from. I took one look and replied with HOW MUCH??? Gawd most of 'em were over £1K!

He said 'well you ain't paying for it!'. If I don't decide soon he said he will buy it when over here. That will cost even more won't it?

Have to make my mind up or tell him to choose for me. I only know what I DON'T want! lol!

I use a VPN to connect to the UK and work. Helps if my machine matches theirs really coz I switch back and forth a lot.

i remember one of my brothers first lp tops he paid 3000 for it and it had windows 2k on it with 512mb of ram it lasted 7 years..

No I don't want a cheapie. Bad enough with the crap internet provision here without having a crap computer to go with it!

Looking at some HP sort of 'desktop replacement' lappies now. Well, in between working and watching Proof of Life with Russel Crowe on the box!

I might try to find one or two of the ones my son sent me details of (they review a lot of them on YouTube now!) see what you think as I've noticed you are into all the high tech stuff!

I pay around 60 for 2M palio but only actually get about 1. They are supposed to be upping it to 4 next month. So maybe it will then go up to 2!

Here is the list my son emailed to me to have a look at and decide from:

thats crazy!!!!! in england you can get 50mbit for less then that!!!

and even with cytanet i pay 50 euros for 4mbit, how come you pay so much?

computers, i stay away from acer. generally when i go for a windows laptop i will either get hp, sony vaio or toshiba is good also. HP having very good driver support and sony being very realiable..

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/sony- ... -50001436/ looks good but it could do with better specs though 2.40Ghz and 4GB ram would be better with 3GHz and 8GB ram...

and i would never get anything bigger then 15 inch otherwise it just turns into a brick.. but thats all down to taste maybe your son would rather 17"

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/toshi ... -50000488/ is ok has a faster processor then the last one. 2.66Ghz with 4GB ram again.. 4gb seems to be standard now.

with any machine i would try upgrade to 8GB.

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/hp-pa ... -50000298/ that one also a core i7

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/hp-en ... -50000288/

my ideal laptop would be a core i7 500GB drive 8GB ram. but since i use a macbook pro it would cost 3 thousand or so for that.

lol I know Palio! In the UK I paid about 10 quid a month for ten times what I get here. And I can show my UK pals the result of a speedtest from here if I want to make them laugh!

I looked at Cable Net but read bad reports of it in the Larnaca area (don't want to be out of the frying pan into the fire - at least Cyta hardly ever loses the connection altogether - which would be a nightmare for me working as I am uploading to a website a lot of the time).

I have a 17" now and wanted something a bit smaller (I think my son thinks I might be going blind in my advancing years!) I wanted a non reflective screen but don't see many like that. I don't watch movies on it or anything - don't download movies or music. It's a workhorse.

I've been pleased with this Acer Aspire for performance but the darned thing gets red hot and the heat comes out on the right side and I am a mouse user! I think if you ever tried to use it on your lap it would melt your trousers!

I liked the look of the HP Envy. That comes in a choice of sizes. I never upgrade OS (just get a new one with the latest on it) so think it's a bit of a waste paying too much as this laptop is the longest I've ever kept one. I will keep it to connect to TV for BBC iChoice and for my daughter to use when here save her bringing her own.

cablenet is 69 euros for 10mbit..

i had a 17 once never again, too much of a brick and hassle to carry around, i got a 15 next and now a 13 lol but with the 13 its too hard to multi task properly

cyta charge you that much for 2mbits? i pay less for 4, how is that possible.

bbci? do you use a proxy?
