In Newcastle or Cyprus?

In Cyprus, Limassol office

paliometoxo wrote:so allex ruffneck, your trying to get a cyprus id card and your originally english? or your english-cypriot?

Born in england, father is cypriot, i now want to work here, so i need to do military service, and they wont allow me to do it without ID card. To make matters more comlicated, i left my birth certificate in UK, and without it they wont issue me an ID card, so i'm working on getting it sent over now.

Update on this fiasco, they wouldn't give me an ID card until i had my ORIGINAL birth certificate, not a copy; i took it today, now they say i need to have been here 6 months to get a cypriot ID card, they can give me a british ID card... but army require a cypriot ID card. This is just another hiccup in a long list of problems - considering the CNG are working hard to stop people from avoiding national service, they sure are making it hard for me.
Apparently now i have to get the head of MOD involved. I've been told he should be able to overule all this nonsense and make them accept me with a british ID card, issued over here.
Before i came here, i contacted my local armyoffice, and the cyprus embassy in london, to find out exactly what i needed. I brought eveything i was told to, including an official document from cyprus consolate in england proving my birth details, parents details, and evidence of permanent residence in the uk since birth (school/secondary school/university etc etc)
Since arriving, i have had nothing but problems and obstacles. :(

This is Cyprus!

Yep. I am aware that this is kinda how things go down here, i just didn't think i'd have such problems getting into the army to do mynational service. People have just given me incorrect information. Many times. One person says i need something, i get it, then another person at the same office says i need something else instead. And so on.
Anyway, hopefully i should be sorted in a couple of days

When you eventually get in, they should hold you up as a shining example to all the Cypriots who are dodging national service.

Lovely day. Took a picnic out to Cape Greko, stopped at our favourite watering hole for a drink on the way home, dumped our bags and went for a swim. Settling down for the evening now.

Going to be on the beach at Fig Tree bay around 08:00 on Saturday morning, well before the tourists wake up. Probably have to remove a few towels to get a couple of sun-beds, the Nicosians (and Charlies) are worse than the Germans!
