The TRNC Parliament’s Committee on Legal and Political Affairs has extended the application period to the Immovable Property Commission for another two years.
The Commission was set up to provide a local remedy for Greek Cypriot property claims in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Yesterday, the Committee unanimously approved an amendment to the Law concerning the Compensation Exchange and Reinstatement of Immovable Properties extending the application period.
If approved, the application period, which is to end on the 21st of December 2009, will be extended to the 21st of December 2011.
The amendment aims to confute the claims that the Committee is not an effective domestic remedy because of `the short application period and limited applications`.
