"A washed out society"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"A washed out society"

Postby Nikitas » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:46 pm

Sener Levent in his today's article in Politis notes what is missing from the front page of leading TC newspaper Kibris:

There is no mention of Papandreou's visit to the RoC, or of the surrender of Kurdish fighters in Turkey, or other major national and international news.

What figures on the front page of Kibris is the police report that a settler inserted his fingers in his sister's vagina, that another man kidnapped his girlfriend with whom he had a child two years ago, that two friends stabbed each other during a political argument.

Asserting that the front page is indicative of the symptoms of TC society as a whole Sener concludes that this shows that it is a bankrupt society.

I do not know if it is bankrupt or not. But the nature of the offences does indicate a change. It is an even bet that such news would not be the big news in TC papers in the past. We all know what the cause of the change is, but very few TCs dare to openy say it.

As far as I know society have changed in every single country when u compare the situations of societies by going back to 20 years and then another 20 years and so on... What do u want us to tell u, Nikitas?

Moreover that incident has nothing to do with TC society or settler citizens of TRNC. According to reports of several newspapers those mainland Turks were being in TRNC as tourists they were not settlers as u suggested.

What do u want us to tell u? Every society has it's own share of psychopatics, thieves, assassins etc... Do u wish us to tell u that GCs r a far better society than the settlers society to live together with?

I several times read in the news that GC fathers sexually harrassed their own daughters... Can i overgeneralize this incident on general moral values of GCs?

I guess if we get judged by what appears in the sun, then UK is even more washed out?
Levent baby needs to get hold of reality. There is papers and there is papers as they say.

Just another washed out society then...

A 38-year-old married man, father of two children, was detained today by the Dekelia court, in relation to a case of assaulting girls.
The man is Andreas Kramvis, 38, from the village of Alethriko, now a resident of Ormidia.

The Police investigator told the court that there had been many complaints recently of harassment of girls in the Ormidia area.

On Saturday, the suspect harassed a 6-year-old girl in the sea, and was later arrested.

The suspect said that he did not remember any of the assaults.

In the past, Kramvis was reported to have harassed his own children.

The court ordered he be detained for eight days to help investigations.

You’re missing the point that Nikitas is making here… he talked about “front page news” not misc stories that go on the rest of the pages!

And btw, your link is not even a Cypriot newspaper let alone front page!

Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation: News in English, 99-07-01

CYBC is the source of the news.. is it a Greek website? Such news on front pages or misc stories in other pages don't matter. Nikitas clearly attempted to exploit an incident for a political purpose.

I don't quite get where Nikitas wants to go with this but not even our local paper reported the 3/4 hour long torture of a wife by her drug crazed husband, and then the murder of, opposite the road from me

He is basically saying that since the election of Eroglu, the TC press has been very hesitant in publishing cutting edge news items on their front pages, such as Papandreou visiting the RoC, and the surrender of Kurdish fighters in Turkey.

Whilst Nikitas is not directly implying that TC society is bankrupt, Sener Levent is in fact implying that TC society is "washed out" because 'freedom of press' seems to be even more compromised and TCs have absolutely no control or ability to openly say anything about this shift in media reporting....
