What figures on the front page of Kibris is the police report that a settler inserted his fingers in his sister's vagina, that another man kidnapped his girlfriend with whom he had a child two years ago, that two friends stabbed each other during a political argument.

Asserting that the front page is indicative of the symptoms of TC society as a whole Sener concludes that this shows that it is a bankrupt society.

I do not know if it is bankrupt or not. But the nature of the offences does indicate a change. It is an even bet that such news would not be the big news in TC papers in the past. We all know what the cause of the change is, but very few TCs dare to openy say it.

As far as I know society have changed in every single country when u compare the situations of societies by going back to 20 years and then another 20 years and so on... What do u want us to tell u, Nikitas?

Moreover that incident has nothing to do with TC society or settler citizens of TRNC. According to reports of several newspapers those mainland Turks were being in TRNC as tourists they were not settlers as u suggested.

What do u want us to tell u? Every society has it's own share of psychopatics, thieves, assassins etc... Do u wish us to tell u that GCs r a far better society than the settlers society to live together with?

I several times read in the news that GC fathers sexually harrassed their own daughters... Can i overgeneralize this incident on general moral values of GCs?

I don't quite get where Nikitas wants to go with this but not even our local paper reported the 3/4 hour long torture of a wife by her drug crazed husband, and then the murder of, opposite the road from me

He is basically saying that since the election of Eroglu, the TC press has been very hesitant in publishing cutting edge news items on their front pages, such as Papandreou visiting the RoC, and the surrender of Kurdish fighters in Turkey.

Whilst Nikitas is not directly implying that TC society is bankrupt, Sener Levent is in fact implying that TC society is "washed out" because 'freedom of press' seems to be even more compromised and TCs have absolutely no control or ability to openly say anything about this shift in media reporting....

Who cares whether Papandreu visits so-called RoC or not. We didn't even open a thread here to talk abt it. Neither the surrendering terrorist suspect Kurds bear any importance for TC community.

Shift in media reporting?

Sener Levent, as a lifelong journalist, is exrpessing his alarm at the apathy as it is evident in the news emphasis in a leading newspaper.

It is not an indication that such crimes are unique to the TCs or the settlers. He is simply saying that matters which are vital for the future of the island are given second, sometimes even third ranking.

As for Papandreou's visit and its relevance, it was an unfortunate example because his visit and his speech in the RoC parliament indicate a change of Greek policy on Cyprus.

There are many in the TRNC that have not got a single political bone in their body Nikitas and Sener is just concentrating on his love and not even thinking about what might seem newsworthy for the average Ali. He might as well that it was not reported in shop windows or reference made to it on every street corner. Perhaps, if his anti Turkish self would take a break for a few seconds, He might just understand this as just apathy and that the people have had enough of hearing about it but still nothing changes...Even more dangerous than his "censorship" theory.

I only wish you were able to read the CTP rag, Yeni Düzen. Almost overnight, it seems to have rediscovered its old values (in my opinion, anyhow) following the election of Eroğlu and it is reporting all sorts of controversial issues.
