Can Turkey annex the occupied territory of Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Nikitas wrote:"When I give you permission to remove my choice then you can remove it, till then I am perfectly able to decide for my self. I currently have 3 nationalities ( BritishEU, RoCEU and TRNC(EU)). I like all three."

Now you are being deliberately dumb.

The statement was that in case of annexation the RoC will have every right to withdraw nationality from those of its nationals who choose to register themselves as nationals of Turkey. The act of accepting or seeking the nationality of a foreign power, especially a hostile one, can be cited as grounds for cancelling nationality. The USA has such a rule in its nationality regulations. Any US citizen actively seeking another nationality loses his US nationality. Actively in this case includes a simple act like placing a signature on an application form.

Nikitas, You can apply anything you wish in the GRoC, we will give our people real freedom with more choices in the TRoC, don't you know?

This thread could have been much shorter :
GR's is a circular argument. What is annexation ? Annexation is the acquiring of territory in breach of international law. Could Turkey annex the occupied territory of Cyprus ? Yes, but only illegally since the definition of annexation is the illegal acquiring of territory. Not much more to say. All rather dull.

Next : is the chief rabbi Jewish ?

Utter rubbish!

“Annexation is the legal incorporation of some territory into another geo-political entity..."

And what can Turkey possibly do? Announce to the EU that she hereby annexes a part of EU territory and asks for their recognition and support? Image

The RoC prays for Turkey to make such a stupid blunder night & day… Image

GR might not have noticed but Turkey's occupation of Cyprus is usually described as illegal not least because the RoC claims legitimacy, so Turkish annexation of Cyprus is hardly going to be legal is it !!! By any stretch of the imagination any effort by Turkey to annex part of Cyprus is, by definition, going to be against international law. All but the most ardent Turkish nationalists have baulked at the notion of annexation probably for this very reason.

So again, the thread could have been kept very short simply by answering with a "no" the question "Can Turkey annex the occupied territory of Cyprus ?" No, not lawfully; no, not diplomatically; and no, not even politically.

The thread set about to show that “annexation” is a LEGAL PROCESS recognized internationally where deemed appropriate and agreed upon, and that there’s no such thing as “illegal annexation” so all Turkey can possibly do is to continue with the illegal occupation, in which case there’s no difference whatsoever from what she has already been doing for the last 35 years!

Therefore, the notion that Turkey has the option to annex the occupied territory of Cyprus is unfounded rubbish!

End of story.

YFred being a dreamer again:

"we will give our people real freedom with more choices in the TRoC, don't you know? "

Wave your magic wand and make the settlers and the army disappear, and after you have done we can talk about real choices for the TCs. Till then they are under many Turkish thumbs.

Try asking for a reduction of troops even, and see what response you will get.

Who needs to dream when one lives the nightmare. My Grandmother used to say "Let me sleep so I can see again." Perhaps my GC friends can have a long sleep.

Dreamers are those who are blind maximalists who will end disappointed at the end of these negotiations no matter what happens, whether we have a vote or not or whether it’s yes or no.

I am a realist and always have been. You guys had a chance to remove the TA out of Cyprus and you voted to keep them there. We will not ask for the TA to go till you sign the peace agreement. When you do then watch the soldiers go, but than you say all of them? Who cares whether 650 stay or not.
Nikitas we stopped caring some time ago. It is not that high in the TC agenda. We have more important worries like being suffocated with love and all that.

Because we want them removed on our terms not theirs.

We will not ask for the TA to go...

The TCs are not in a position to ask anything from Turkey other than the next handout.

...till you sign the peace agreement.

The peace agreement? :? You mean the blackmailing proposal to make a bankrupt minority a 50% “partner” of our money?

Your generous proposal is on file! :D Damned beaurocracy may take 20-30 years before we look at it though… :(
