Upon being asked a question regarding the EU aide package, Mr. Rasbash replied the real aim of the EU aid package is to assist the reunification of the island.

He said ‘it is hoped that the reunification of the island will be before the year 2011’ and added that ‘this should be the focus point of the two sides of the island.’
Mr. Rasbash also underlined the fact that with every passing day exporting by the TC's to south Cyprus within the framework of the Green Line regulation is increasing.

The aid programme aims to facilitate the reunification of Cyprus by encouraging the economic development of the Turkish Cypriots side with particular emphasis on the economic integration of the island.

İt also aims to improve contacts between the two sides and with the EU.
€259 million is available between the period of 2006 to 2011.
