Protection of Kyrenia (Girne) Mountaines.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Protection of Kyrenia (Girne) Mountaines.

WORKS ON PROTECTION OF POTENTIAL NATURA 2000 SITES IN THE TRNC CONTINUE

A consultation meeting for the Kyrenia(Girne)Mountains range was held in Kyrenia.

It was organized within the framework of the EU-funded project of “Technical Assistance for management and protection of potential NATURA 2000 sites” in the Northern Cyprus.

In a speech, the Project Co-ordinator Mustafa Sehitcan said that the meeting was aimed at giving a start to the consultation process for the management plans for the protection of the Girne(Kyrenia) Mountains.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of the EU Programme Support Office Alessandra Viezzer underlined the need for the protection of 50 types of plants and 16 types of animals peculiar to Cyprus and added that many other natural components and resources were in need of protection and conservation.

She said Girne Mountains were in serious danger.

The Director of the Department of Environmental Protection Hulya Altan, for her part, said the Project was providing the opportunity to determine the potential areas of NATURA 2000 in Cyprus and prepare management plans for their protection

The reality is that over the past few decades the Occupation Regime has encouraged the wholesale destruction of large parts of the Kyrenia Mountains for commercial profit.

Anyone driving from Nicosia to Occupied Kyrenia will witness the vast limestone quarries where entire mountains have been blasted and removed; trucked away for export to Turkey.

Thousands of donums of forest have also been deliberately and systematically set ablaze by the Turkish Army for military reasons.

Bill you must not exaggerate. The forest fires are not deliberate. They happen where ever there are forests and very dry hot weather. They can be started through stupidity or naturally, but I hardly think that they would be burned intentionally. If anything they would be cut down and burned to form charcoal for you and me.
As to the quarrying mentioned, you can’t blame them for trying to make a living with what ever is at their disposal.
If you wish to see improved environment “Stop The Suffocation”

It is a very simple equation. Suffocation = do anything to survive.

It’s so easy to be all seeing and all knowing when you have the food on the table. Not so when you don’t.

Another list of atrocities to add to Turkey's guilt of ethnic cleansing of the natural human inhabitants of nearly half a country ...

The sad state of Kyrenia, mountains and more, is the direct outcome of the Turkish invasion. If you systematically ethnically cleanse the Greek Cypriot natives who have lived in harmony with their environment for thousands of years and replace them with warmongers and uncaring backward Anatolian settlers as well as fast-buck Brits, then what do your expect?

The Turks are a crime to humanity a crime to cultural heritage and a crime to nature!

Turks out of Cyprus!

I can't guarantee it, but I doubt if much - if any - rock from the mountain have been shipped away to Turkey. Why should it? There's no shortage of rock in Turkey.

Another silly comment.

This sounds like a proper piss taking!!
both sides of the mountain range has already been destructed.
North part, by allowing buildings all the way up the slope, which not only destroyed the vegetation to provide space but turned the whole place into a concrete jungle.
As to the southern part,by giving licence to numerous stone quarries,to carve the mountains with daily explosions to extract stone & gravel to satisfy the building craze!!

No mate.

Forests will naturally recover from fires; re-seeding and re-establishing themselves, as they do in the Free Areas of the Troodos. What you see in the Kyrenia Mountains, where you are lucky to see a single tree, is deliberate destruction by the Turkish Army.

As to the "suffocation" myth, it's perfectly possible for our tissy friends to earn a decent and honest living. Thousands now cross over to the Free Areas every day, abandoning Tnucland for legitimate empoyment. The Remnants of the Illegal Regime still however persist in taking the Easy Money by such things as the attempted stealing of the land, homes and businesses of others.

Thieves will always take the Easy Way.
