A few years ago we set up an internet site, one other will go live in two weeks. It has been a good move and business is good with alot of repeat customers worldwide.
As already official stockists of the products we sell suppliers were keen to help us out and we get plenty of free marketing to help boost sales.
Our only teething problem has been the delivery aspect of the product and the charge back system used by credit card companies.
We started off with Royal Mail for all our deliveries (worldwide) but fell into the trap of sending without a required signature upon arrival, this led to a expensive lesson we soon rectified.
We now use Royal Mail and UPS with required signatures upon arrival which also includes insurance based on the product value. This has cut down on losses and fraudulent receipt of goods by up to 92%.
Another aspect of the business which was altered quickly was how to take payment, we started with Protx who processed all credit cards and were cheaper than all other processing companies. We realised from customer questions that a preferred method was PayPal, so we have taken them on board.
The system is now more or less full proof for customers and ourselves. We have very few complaints and fraudulent activity is down to a minimum.
In short selling and buying through the internet is easy and 99% safe, but be aware there will always be some out there who will try and take advantage.
