Proud for the following reasons:

After 1974- 20% of the population became refugees, thus worked hard, did not revert to crime, etc and in less than 10 years rebuilt their country into a prosperous one.
The Cypriots to some extent still have their traditions and culture and most of all self respect.
They love their children and respect their elders.

Because of this the immigrants thought they would find the same culture in Cyprus but un fortunately they are wrong sorry guys, but we have taken the Cypriot tradition with us hence the name calling of Charlie lol. The Greek Cypriots don't even know what that is or why they call us names and above all the most funniest is that they think we are funny? LOL come on get off your high horses please LOL.

Kindness of peoples hearts they will not call you the bad names which you deserve.

Why are you proud to be Cypriot?

Some of us we are proud because we are Greeks of Cyprus. Some others are proud because they are products of policies and difficulties.Charlies are just these who left Cyprus before we/they understand what we actually are.

More details after responces of Neo Cypriots!!!

Thanks for that point Epsilon very much appreciated :-) But if they called us Charlies for leaving Cyprus, what flag were they born under? was it not a British Flag? So you are also calling the people who were born before the 1960 Charlies.

But why Charlie?

Flag? Do you know how many people born under Hitler's/ Nazis flag? Does this mean that Polish or Greks or French born that time were Germans/Nazis?

All people have an Ethinicity in their heart/soul and this has nothing to do with where or when they born. Some loosing this during their short life under special circumstances, - propaganta/ financial/political benefits/ pressure.

All these are always (in history) the losers .

considering that this is my first communication with you i have to repeat that no Nation/ no state can survive in longterm unless its people have a clear ID about language/habits/history.

In Cyprus we (the Greek side) have to desite what we are. We must do it asap. Otherwise the history will be very hard with us ,despite what flag we like to be under of.

So what right do you have to call other people names if you do not know there history or reasons? What if like my parents you didn't have a choice? Did you ever think of that? Or have you ever thought that people move on? How would you like it if I named your child a little slapper coz she is born in Cyprus and that is where all the Prostitutes go?

I would never say such a thing coz its not in my nature but some people can be very cruel and unthoughtful.
