So if you were doing them over the last 3 years then the marketing message wasn't getting through to all the people that would come to all the events you did !
You may 'poo poo' people wanting a free drink but the cost of drinks is an issue for many people. €4 for a small local beer in RockNest vs €3 for a large bottle in a bar in another bar in Paphos, already people that drink beer will be thinking about whether to go their or not, whether they love the music or not.
Also talking about a 'dump' may be a bit harsh but in contrast RockNest was really well finished, that level of 'sophistication' doesn't attract what i would expect to be a 'casual rock crowd', more the 'smart be seen' crowd.
Just my opinion but an 'easygoing' venue with competitive drink prices (NOT the get a free shot, fishbowl or buy one get one free) may, slowly slowly, get a regular rock crowd together, its just whether the economics of waiting the months/years for that crowd to establish is something a bar owner is willing to handle.
Being a metalhead/rocker myself i know exactly what i want from the place i'll go to listen to this kind of music. I wanna be able to relax there and have fun without having to be careful about if i drop something on the floor and get it dirty and not having to think before i order a drink more because my budget wont allow it. Rock Nest was NONE of that, if it was up to me? It would be ALOT different, but unfortunately it wasn't up to my hand so yeah you know exactly how stuff went in there. I was just the DJ.
P.S.: I miss DJing The vibe i got from people some of the times we DID manage to get it full was just phenomenal! I'd LOVE to do it again, hell i'll do it for free if i get the chance.
