Do you know why many people always end up reinstalling Windows when they have a tech problem they can't fix?

Because they don't really know how to fix Windows problems so they are quick to assume they've tried "everything"!

Not really GR. I work for an I.T. company in the UK so I know what I am talking about. You don't know his machine and nor do I!

What is the famous IT Tech Help Desk saying "re-boot!"

No, you have completely miss-diagnosed the problem.

He said that both PCs worked fine and now neither work on the router. SO, you suggested re-installing Windows? On one PC or both…? How would that help?

In simple terms this is what you suggested.

Its Me: My Pajero has a flat tyre and won’t go faster than 10mph
Z4: My Z4 had a miss-fire once and wouldn’t go very fast either – I had to replace the ECU and I suggest you do that.
Its Me: I replaced the ECU on the Pajero but the tyre is still flat and it won’t go fast at all.
Z4: I am an idiot.

hello all and thank you for all the help and advice.
cyprusgrump i checked out the ip address on both pcs and they both have the same ip address. this sounds like it could be the problem?
if it is not too complicated could you walk me through the way you reconfigured your friends router?

On one of the machines bring up a dos window and then type:

ipconfig/release

when that finishes type:

ipconfig/renew

If that doesn't work, you need to change the tc/ip settings, but that starts getting complicated to do over a forum.

Its You, it seems like u have a problem with upload speed that affects the download speed, thus speed of net surfing; loading time of the webpages. Low upload speed usually is an isp related problem or a problem on ur destination route.

In such cases, u most probably have packet losses that cause delays, long time to load webpages.

Plz check if u have packet losses.

go start, click on run, type "ping google.com -t"(without quotes) then click on ok and see if u have packet losses...

Hi,

That will be the problem - they can't share an IP address...

1. Assuming that the two PC's don't have hard-coded addresses? Check that they are set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. I can tell you how if you are unsure...

2. You need to configure the router and enable DHCP for the two client PC's.

To complete 2. you need to know the user name and password for your router to get in in 'administration mode. You can find the manual of the router on the Intermoing using Google...

3. Poke fun at Z4 for suggesting you needed to re-install WIndows.

Let me know if you need more help with any steps.
