Eroğlu is reported to have said the following in a speech he made to the İskenderun Young Businessmen’s Association while visiting the Turkish province of HatayMüzakere masasına ansızın gökten bir plan da düşebilir. Bu plan da Kıbrıs Rum tarafını ikna edecek, tatmin edecek bir anlaşma şekli olabilir. İşte o zaman hepimiz zora gireriz.
A plan may suddenly fall from the sky onto the negotiating table. This plan may be such that it convinces and satisfies the Greek Cypriot side. Well then we will all be in hot water.
That one has got me scratching my head a bit.
You cant negotiate with him. Perhaps he is using these statements to gain some sort of leverage (black-mail if you like) during the current talks.
You must not take his words literally. Turkish language is full of such statements. For instance you could hear the phrase “ Goz gararincaya kadar Tuz koy”, does it mean that you put salt till your eye ball blackens?
Tim, you have such a lot to learn as an interpreter.
What he means to say is that they could come up with a totally new plan totally new parapters? No? as my French friend used to say.
