Is so-called RoC being taken to EJC by EU?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Is so-called RoC being taken to EJC by EU?

Postby insan » Sat Oct 10, 2009 10:35 pm

THE EU has activated the second stage of the infringement procedure over restrictions Cyprus places on estate agents, the Commission said yesterday.

“The Commission will send a formal request to Cyprus concerning its national legislation restricting the activities of estate agents,” a Commission press release said.

The request will be in the form of a reasoned opinion, the second stage of the infringement procedure stipulated by EU laws.

If Cyprus fails to provide a satisfactory explanation within two months, the Commission may refer the matter to the European Court of Justice.

Not a bad move by the EU. Its one of the outdated laws in Cyprus that needs clarification.

Its still not as glamorous as all the other ECJ daytrips Turkey and a few Brit freloaders are having to take part in recently. How do you compare going to the ECJ for a law limiting estate agents actions with massacres and stolen property. :?

I didn't make any comparison with anything... furthermore, massacres committed by both sides...

Moreover, if u were under embargoes; u would have to sell TC property to survive...

One more thing to add, only 11% of land belong to GCs was sold to foreigners in 35 years... TCs have much more than that 11% in South to exchange.

Absolutely, it's in the best interests of CY to ensure that standards in this important property sector are improved.

Why has this been posted in CyProb? Are you being naughty again Insan by detracting from the Packard vid?

What are you exchanging insan? And with whom? The rules of exchanging something is when you have 2 willing parties to exchange with. I don't recall the GC's ever agreeing to exchange anything.

Its an interesting ethical question you pose however with your claim that the embargoes have pushed you into selling land you don't own to foreigners.
You have a mother country that runs the occupied territories and pays your inneficient civil service on time (1/3 of TC's work for the administration from what I understand.)
You are able to freely trade all your goods and services with a market as large as Turkey's which is one of only 2 reasons the EU would ever need a country as complex and problematic as Turkey into the union
You have allowed the investments of Turkish companies in the form of casinos. hotels and other leisure activities, which bring jobs to the TC's
You have bypassed international laws and bring flights loaded with tourists by stopping over in Turkey....

Where are the embargoes? If we had a commited market like Turkey to deal with where its actually a govt instruction to do business and spend tourism cash in the island I think we'd be in an even better financial position.

So where in all this were you "forced" to turn to crime?

Where do you think the students come from??? How about the 300 + millions to pay for the services??

Now compare that to what the "RoC" has DONE for us

Now think about how much more the "RoC" would have liked to have embroiled Turkey in with the embargoes on TCs and claimed produce from the TRNC was being shipped out by Turkey under pretense....There are certain rules to the game of the Cyprob and you are now accusing Turkey of playing them...Well Duh!!!!!

Gregory, u know in an island like Cyprus the primary income resource is tourism but due to embargoes and especially intensive, negative propaganda of Greek/GC lobby; we have been deprived from this huge income resource...

You believe it or not, I have never wished Cyprus being divided and Cypriots(GC,TC) had to flee and abandon their ancestral homes and lands to save their lives under the hostile circumstances of 1974 but it's happened and in 1975 leaders of 2 communities agreed to find a solution in frame of a bi-zonal federation.

If i were the leader of any of the 2 communities, I would have made a proposal urgently solving refugee and property issues...

How?

First of all I would have returned some 10% of land(Varosha included) that would allow abt 50.000 refugees to return... This was proposed by TC leadership in 1978 but rejected by GC leadership.

Furthermore, I would put on agenda the establishment of a bi-communal properties board to let refugees decide whether they wish to exchange and/or restitution and/or compensation of their lands and properties...

I would make an interim agreement with some preconditions:

1- Recognition of 2 interim federal governments of Cyprus until a lasting solution acceptable to both sides found.

2- Prohibition of the sale of the lands and properties belong to refugees.

3- Establishment of a bi-communal committee to investigate the fates of the missing persons.

4- Establishment of a bi-communal committee of reconciliation.

5- Establishment of a bi-communal committee of protecting cultural heritage and religous foundations.

Unfortunately our incompetent leaders and politicians; besides so-called media only were capable to act in direction of perpetuateing division, prejudices and hatred. :?

No single person can “agree” to partition Cyprus without the approval of Cypriots so you can forget about all UN Charter violations attempted in the past... because Cyprus is a UN recognized sovereign nation entitled to 100% of its territory, with or without the people they call “Turkish Cypriots”.
