Wanted: old technology! Need a VHS rewinder

Postby journo » Sat Oct 10, 2009 9:29 pm

Hi, need a VHS rewinder; electronic or mechanical. Tired of using a knife or scissors to rewind a tape. Need something speedier and that will give consistent tension. Anyone got an old rewinder hidden away in a storeroom they want to sell? Not looking for a video recorder or player - just the independent rewinder.
:) Cheers

I have a DVD re-winder that you may be able to adapt...

Thanks, but since DVDs don't actually need a 'rewind' these were produced purely as 'novelties'.

Basically they just 'reverse' the DVD to give sound and light effects....so they wouldn't adapt as a physical VHS rewind. But thanks for the thought and for taking the trouble to reply.

With ridiculous US postal charges, yes. (Mostly from sellers who only post withing the US or - for the few who post outside - haven't a clue where Cyprus is!)

I have VHS players/recorders but also a vast number of VHS tapes to process. Constantly using the rewind on the machines knackers that function. That's why separate (more robust) rewinders were made. Simply for that job.

Most are electronic but mechanical ones have also been produced. Nothing to go wrong with those. I suppose I can always make a mechanical rewinder - they're very simple. But was just being lazy. Still, anything beats having to stick scissors/a knife blade a stick or whatever in the centre of the spool to turn it!
